1.0 Description:
Parveen’s Overshot Expansion joint provide a downhole expansion joint in wells where extreme
tubing movement is anticipated and tubing separation device is also required. As a reaction to length
changes in the production tubing caused by temperature fluctuations, it expands and contracts with
tubing movement. The long Slick joint sub permits Maximum contraction and elongation which will
occur during the treatment and production of the well.
2.0 Features:
The Overshot Expansion joint Assembly is available upto 20 ft.
Debris barrier assembly to resist the reciprocating wear and protect the sealing surface of
the slick joint sub by providing complete protection for the slick joint sub throughout the
full stroke of the tool.
Seating Nipple profile is incorporated at the topmost end of the Slick joint sub permitting
the isolation of the producing zone from the annulus during workover operations.
One -trip required to run in and actuate.
Seals can be retrieved for redress.
One trip retrieval - the entire completion can be retrieved with straight pick up of the
tubing once engaged.
3.0 Benefits:
One trip system saves rig time.
Seals can be retrieved for redress without removing the packer.
Debris barrier assembly for long life.
4.0 Applications:
Completion where extreme tubing movements are expected and where the packer is set
after the well is flanged up.
Production, injection or stimulation.

5.0 Operation:
The Overshot Expansion joint is normally run directly above and anchored into a Production
packer by an Anchor Seal. Tools with J-slot assemblies are assembled and run with specific
number of shear screws. Straight pull or application of set –down weight will free the outer
housing from the slick joint for spacing out. The “easy-out Right hand” J-slot allows
Disengaging, while the “easy-in Left hand” J-slot permits engaging the J-pins, by turning with
minimum effort. After shearing, the tubing should be raised high enough to alleviate the
possibility of inadvertently engaging of J-pin with J-slot during production. Debris barrier
assembly resists the reciprocating wear and protects the sealing surface of the slick joint sub by
providing complete protection for the slick joint sub throughout the full stroke of the tool.
Note:
Test pressure should not exceed well hydrostatic pressure at Assembly setting depth.

1. Place the assembly in a vice and grip on the Outer Housing {Plain receptacle extension
(set -1)} assembly.
2. Remove the Shear screw (10).
3. Remove the inner sub assembly from Outer housing.
Note: Ensure that J-pin gets disengaged from J-slot Assembly.
4. Remove the Sleeve – J-Slot Assembly (11) from Housing – packing set (8).
5. Remove Packing set (9) & O-ring (2) from Housing - packing set (8).
6. Remove the Housing – packing set (8) from Extension connector (5).
7. Remove Extension connector (5) from Plain receptacle extension assembly
(set-1).
8. Now remove Top sub (1) from Plain receptacle extension assembly (set - 2).
9. Remove Plain receptacle extension assembly (set-2) from top side of Extension connector
(5).
10. Now remove Debris barrier assembly (7) and O-ring (2) from Plain receptacle extension (4)
(set-2).
11. Remove Extension connector (5) from Plain receptacle extension assembly
(set – 1).
12. Now remove Debris barrier assembly (7) and O-ring (2) from Plain receptacle extension (4)
(set – 1).
13. Now place the inner sub assembly in the vice.
Caution: Do not scratch or scar Slick joint sub sealing OD.
14. Remove Bottom sub (13) from J-slot assembly (12).
15. Remove J-slot assembly (12) from Slick joint sub (14).
16. Remove O-ring (6) from both side of J-slot assembly (12)
17. Remove Seating nipple (3) from top side of Slick joint sub (14).
18. Remove O-ring (6) from Slick joint sub (14).

1. Place the Slick joint sub (14) in the vice & do the necessary cleaning.
Caution: Do not scratch or scar Slick joint sub sealing OD.
2. Insert the O-ring (6) into the top side of Slick joint sub (14).
3. Install the Seating nipple (3) on top side of the Slick joint sub (14).
4. Insert the O-ring (6) on both the ends of J-slot & install J-slot assembly (12) on the bottom
side of the Slick joint sub (14).
5. Now insert Bottom sub (13) into the J-slot assembly (12).
Caution: Ensure that the threading next to J-slot connected to the bottom of the slick joint
sub (14) and threading next to the slot of shear screws connected to bottom sub (13).

Caution: For smoother insertion maintain the alignment at the centre and ensure that no scratches
or scar made by J-pin on the sealing surface of Slick Joint sub.
1. Now insert inner sub assembly as Seating nipple(3) on topside into the Outer
housing through bottom side.
Note: Before inserting clean the surface & apply grease for lubrication.
2. Now adjust inner sub assembly & place the shear screw (10) by matching the holes.
Assembly Notes:
a) Use Hex Soc. Set screws (*15) where ever required (as per diagram).
b) Apply Copper compound on the threaded portion.
c) Apply Silicon grease on the debris barrier assy (7), Packing set (9) and O-rings.
d) Proper cleaning has to be done to individual parts before Assembly.
* 15 & 16 Nos. Hex. Soc. Set Screw used only for 2.7/8”
Before separation of the housings a blanking plug may be installed by standard wireline procedure
in the Seating nipple (incorporated into the upper portion of the Slick joint sub) to block all flow
from the formation. After ensuring that the outer housing is completely isolated pull the tubing
string to the surface, where the inner sub assembly remains attached with the production packer.
Initially isolate the Expansion joint from the formation pressure. Lower the tubing until the J-pin
reaches the J-slot. Ensure that the J-pin reaches the J-slot by applying set down weight. Now rotate
the tubing in anti-clockwise direction less than half turn and slowly pull the tubing. Before pulling
the tubing with greater effort ensure that the J-pin properly engaged in the J-slot.
Caution: More Torque application in tubing leads to shearing of set screws which in turn loosen
the thread connection.
Caution: The increased load may permanently damage the tool by deforming the J-slot or J- pin.
