INTRODUCTION

Fear is the most general term and

implies anxiety and usually loss of
courage. Fear of the unknown dread
usually adds the idea of intense
reluctance to face or meet a person or
situation and suggests aversion as well
as anxiety.

The fear response arises from the

perception of danger leading to
confrontation with or escape
from/avoiding the threat (also known as
the fight-or-flight response), which in
extreme cases of fear (horror and terror)
can be a freeze response or paralysis.

In humans and other animals, fear is

modulated by the process of cognition
and learning. Thus, fear is judged as
rational or appropriate and irrational or
inappropriate. An irrational fear is
called a phobia.

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder

defined by a persistent and excessive
fear of an object or situation. Phobias
typically result in a rapid onset of fear
and are present for more than six
months.
CAUSES

The universal trigger for fear is the

threat of harm, real or imagined. This
threat can be for our physical,
emotional or psychological well-being.
While there are certain things that
trigger fear in most of us, we can learn
to become afraid of nearly anything.
Common fear triggers:
1. Darkness or loss of visibility of
surroundings
2. Heights and flying
3. Social interaction and/or
rejection
4. Snakes, rodents, spiders and
other animals
5. Death and dying
Fear is caused when we are really
aware of potential and real threats.
There are many people for whom fear
becomes maladaptive as they struggle
with anxiety, phobias and panic
attacks.
TYPES OF FEAR

Social phobias

1.Social phobias are the most common

type of fear.
They are considered an anxiety disorder
and include excessive self-
consciousness in social situations.Up to
one in 20 people have a social phobia.
2.Agoraphobia: fear of open spaces
While it is generally understood to be a
fear of open spaces, agoraphobia is a
much more complex fear.
Some people with agoraphobia avoid
specific places or venues.
3.Acrophobia: fear of heights
Some people fear heights so badly the
escalators at the local shopping centre
give them vertigo.
4.Pteromerhanophobia: fear of flying
With all the media coverage of air
disasters it is understandable many fear
being in a plane crash and hence have a
fear of flying.
5.Claustrophobia: fear of enclosed
spaces
Sometimes the fear of flying is actually
more closely linked to a fear of
enclosed spaces. People with this fear
say they feel like the walls are closing
on them..
6.Entomophobia: fear of insects
They are small, they crawl and they
often bite, so it is understandable why
many people do not like spiders and
insects.
A fear of all things long and venomous
is common to many.
7.Cynophobia: fear of dogs
A fear of dogs is a common phobia,
particularly among children and door-
to-door sales agents..
8.Astraphobia: fear of storms
It is understandable why the booming
sound of thunder can send people's
hearts racing and a fear of storms is
common.
9.Trypanophobia: fear of needles
Having a sharp piece of metal stuck in
your arm is always an unpleasant
thought and many people develop a
strong aversion to needles.
WAYS
TO
OVER
Fear
COMEis one of the most powerful
emotions. It has a very strong effect on
FEAR
your mind and body
Know yourself
Try to learn more about your fear or
anxiety. Keep a record of when it
happens
and what happens.
Exercise
Increase the amount of exercise you do.
Exercise requires some concentration,
and
this can take your mind off your fear
and
anxiety
Relax
Learning relaxation techniques can help
you with the mental and physical
feelings
of fear. It can help just to drop your
shoulders and breathe deeply.
SURVEY REPORT
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, fear is something that we

all have and face. Our fears come from
either our insecurities, or past
experiences. We all experience and go
through fear. Some of us overcome
what we fear through different methods.
Victoria ends up overcoming her fear
through the methods that she went
through, like seeing a syringe every
day. Eventually she was not afraid to
get treated, and she was no long fearful
of syringes. In the performance we
were shown that many people fear
simple things and that these things can
be faced. Facing your fear might not be
the easiest thing to do, but it may be
something that you have to do
