SANGKURIANG

Once upon a time in West Java, Indonesia. There was lived a beautiful
and kind hearted princess named Dayang Sumbi. Her hobby is weaving cloth,
but sometimes she feel very lazy.

One day her tool was fell but she was too lazy to get it herself, so she
shouted out. “Can anybody helped me to get my tool? If you are a girl, i will take
you as my sister but if you are a male i will marry you.” And then a male dog
came to brought the tool to her, his named is Tumang, he actually a normal man
but he get a cursed by a witch and at certain time he turn back to a normal man.
Dayang sumbi get surprised but she kept the promise so she marry with Tumang.
They have one son and his named is Sangkuriang, and he grew up became a
handsome and healty boy. He always played with his royal dog, but he didn’t
know if that dog is his father because Dayang Sumbi kept the secret about
Tumang.

One day Dayang Sumbi asked tumang to bring a deer’s heart, But after
hunting for several day he could not find a deer. He did not want to disappoint his
mother, so he was thinking hard and he had a very bad idea. He killed Tumang
and brought his heart to gave Dayang Sumbi, Because of love she knew if that
not deer’s heart but is a Tumang’s heart. So she got very angry and hit
Sangkuriang’s forehead with a piece of wood, and she told him to leave with a
bad wound on his forehead, and he left the village.

Many years later, Sangkuriang grew up became a powerful man. One day
he went back to his village and he meet a beautiful young woman, he fell in love
with her at first sight. It was Dayang Sumbi, she never get older because she
had been granted eternal youth by God. Sangkuriang didn’t know that she was
his mother, so he came to her andd proposed to marry her. When Sangkuriang
get closed with her, she get surprised because she saw a scar in forehead and
soon she was knew that he was her son who left her a long time ago. She tld him
the truth and tried hard to explain it to him, but he didn’t believe her. He didn’t
want to break his heart, so she accepted his proposal but she gave an impossible
thing to do, she wanted him to built a lake and boat in just one night.

Sangkuriang agreed, because he knew that he can make it with the help
of his genies. By midnight he finished the lake and started making a boat.
Dayang Sumbi was thinkin hard to find away to fail him, she get idea. Before
dawn, she asked the people in the village to burn the woods in East, and the light
made all cocks crow. Thinkin that the night be over soon, the genies ran fast and
left Sangkuriang alone before the boat was finished. Sangkuriang realized that
Dayang Sumbi had cheated him, so he get very angry and he kicked the boat
upside down. It gradually became a mountain and it is now known as Mt.
Tangkuban Perahu.
