Legal and regulatory
Regulations are sought mainly to protect and benefit the public by imposing measures such as
controlling the quantity and price of services, introducing quality and safety standards, and
regulating the entry of new transport operators . Regulations- as a quasi-legal process- in the
transport sector may include controlling of licenses and permits, vehicle emissions, speed limits,
fares, transport service providers and the procedures for vehicle inspections and maintenance [48].
For example, the public transport council (PTC) of Singapore regulates and audits public transport
to meet the demand of commuters for services, affordable fares, efficient and high levels of
services, and choices for travel, while maintaining a competitive market structure for different
operators.
Currently, public transit, which is mainly available in Muscat, is a loosely regulated network
of buses, minibuses, and taxis and the government have commissioned a Spanish consulting firm
to create a master plan for a bus and light-rail network in Muscat and an overhaul of convoluted
taxi regulations .

according to the Commercial law of Oman. Even branches, representative offices of international
companies require formal registration for a commercial license. Lawyers in Oman have to be registered
in the ‘Advocates Enrollment Records’ officially in order to practice their profession. In addition all
medicines sold by the service agents, pharmaceutical companies and local pharmaceutical factories
must also be formally approved within the Sultanate. For more details click on the links below.
