1. Prayer

Can someone lead the prayer? (Call a Our Father, Who art in heaven,
student) Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Let us all stand for a prayer. Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass
against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

2. Greetings
Good Morning Miss!
Good Morning Class… Good Morning Classmates…

3. Setting the Classroom Standard

Before you take your seats, pick up (Students are picking up trashes and
pieces of trash under your chairs and throwing them in the class bin and
arrange your chairs according to its arranging their chairs properly)
rows and columns.

Are you now all settled, class? Yes Miss!

Last meeting, I have set classroom rules
and regulations for you to follow during our Yes Miss!
class session. Am I right, class?

Now, who can still recall what the

classroom rules are? (Call a student) (the student will stand and recite the class
rules)

Raise your right hand if you want to answer

and left hand if you want to be excused.

Yes that’s right, Very Good…

What Else?

Yes Mark? We agreed to listen when somebody is talking.

Very Good, Mark!

Respect your teacher and your classmates.

Next, Fiona?

Very Good, Fiona!

We also agreed to turn off cellphones and
What else? other gadgets during class hour.
Yes, Clark?

Okay, very good!

Yes Miss!
I hope that those agreed classroom rules will
always be followed for us to be organized and
disciplined. Okay, can I expect that, class?

Okay, that’s good to hear from you class.

4. Checking of Attendance

Who is the secretary of this class? (Rose Jean raising her hand)
I am the secretary miss…

Okay, Rose Jean since you are the

secretary of this class, list the names of Yes Miss, Noted!
absent today in you class blue book.

5. Review

We are done with our previous

topic. Let us recall what you have
learned about the discussion last
meeting? Okay, what is our discussion
last meeting?

Yes, Jovanie?
Yesterday, we discussed about Battery
System, miss…
Yes, Very Good!

Now, Can you recall to me what Battery

Ignition System is?

Yes, Jelou? A battery ignition system is a type of ignition

system used in a spark-ignition engine for
powering the spark plug so that spark can be
generated to burn the air-fuel mixture in the
combustion chamber.
Very Good, Jelou!

So, What are the parts of Battery

Ignition System?

Yes, Marvin?
The main components of Battery Ignition
system are Ignition switch, Battery, Ignition
coil, Ballast resistor, Contact breaker,
Distributor, Capacitor and Spark Plug.

Very Good, Class…

I’m glad you have gain learning from

our previous topic.

Now, Let us proceed to our new topic ( The students watch the video)
today.

6. Motivation

Before we proceed to our new topic, I

have prepared a video presentation for
you to watch.

Okay class... what is the video all Miss, As what I’ve seen earlier it is all about
about? the brakes of an automobile.

Yes, June?

For me miss, it is all about the purpose of

brakes in the automobile.

Yes, you have an idea June…

What else?
Yes, Reymond?
Yes class... all of your idea is accepted It is all about Brake System, Miss…
and it is correct.

Now, based on the video I presented,

what do you think is our topic for today
class?

Anyone from the class. Brake System!

Yes, Jhon?

Yes, Maybe. (The students reading the objectives)

Okay, I will reveal our topic today and eyes on

the board!

The topic that we are going to discuss is all

about “everybody read!

B. Lesson Proper
Before we proceed to our proper discussion,
kindly read first our objectives.

(The teacher discusses the brake system)

BRAKE SYSTEM- A system that allows the

vehicle to slow, stop or hold.

Types of brakes
1. Service brake – operated by pedal,
slows or stops the vehicle ( The students will listen to the discussion)

2. Parking brake – hold the vehicle when

stationary.

Types of wheel-brake mechanism

1. Drum brake – uses brake shoe that rub
against the drum for braking
2. Disc brake – uses brake pads that rub
against the rotor disc.

DISC BRAKE
Friction – the resistance to motion between two
objects in contact with each other.

Wheel cylinder – converts hydraulic pressure

from master cylinder to mechanical movement.

Wear indicator – an audible device that

indicates if your brake lining is still good or
worn out.

Brake caliper – housing for piston and brake

pads, holds the brake pad to straddle the disc.

Brake Adjuster Operation- The adjuster has

threads on it, like a bolt, so that it unscrews a
little bit when it turns, lengthening to fill in the
gap. When the brake shoes wear a little more,
the adjuster can advance again, so it always
keeps the shoes close to the drum.

Three types of caliper

1. Fixed caliper disc brake
2. Floating caliper disc brake
3. Sliding caliper disc brake

Fixed Caliper Disc Brake- A fixed caliper does

not move when the brakes are applied. There are
pistons on both sides of a fixed caliper. When
the brakes are applied, the pistons apply the
brake pads on both sides against the rotor

Floating Caliper Disc Brake- A floating disc is

made up of two parts. An aluminum center
carrier, which is mounted on to the hub of the
wheel and a stainless steel rotor on which the
brake pads apply pressure. The stainless steel
rotor is affixed to the aluminum carrier with
help of rivets.

Sliding Caliper Disc Brake- The sliding caliper

type disc brake is mounted in a slot in the
caliper adapter. It is a variation of the floating
caliper design, using a single piston and
operating on the same principle - the piston
applies pressure to one brake pad and the
movable caliper applies pressure to the other.

Proportional Valve Operation- A proportional

valve provides a change in output pressure or
flow in the same ratio as the change in the input;
for example, if the input doubles then the output
will also double.

Brake fluid – a chemically-inert hydraulic fluid

used to transmit and motion.
- It also lubricates master cylinder, wheel
cylinders and callipers.

Types of brake fluid

1. DOT 3 – hydrophilic, widely used.

2. Dot 4 – hydrophilic, developed for
disc-brake which develops higher
temperature than drum brake.
3. Dot 5 – hydrophobic, can take even
higher temperature and has purple
color.
4. Dot 5.1 – hydrophilic, can take higher
temperature than dot 3 and 4.

 DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 are glycol based and

can absorb moisture (hydrophilic)

 DOT 5 is silicone based and resist

moisture (hydrophobic)

Power brake – a brake which is assisted by

either hydraulic brake booster or brake vacuum
booster. These boosters won’t take effect if the
engine is not running.

Vacuum Brake Booster Operation- When the

brake pedal is depressed, a poppet valve opens,
and air rushes into a pressure chamber on the
driver's side of the booster. The pressure exerted
by this air against the vacuum pushes a piston,
thus assisting the pressure exerted by the driver Yes Miss!
on the pedal.

So, do you have an idea about the operation of

brake system?
C. Application

Directions: This activity will be an oral

recitation. This is an individual activity. You No, Miss!
should locate the different parts of brake
system and how it works.

Is there any question? Yes Miss!

Let’s go to my office for the first 2 people to

answer. (The students reciting an oral and after 5
minutes, next pair will be next to recite.)

(students are in the office)

Are you ready?

Okay very good!

Okay, settle yourself class.

D Generalization

Now, let me ask you class.

To recap our topic, What is Brake System?

A brake system is a system that allows the
vehicle to slow, stop or hold.
Yes, Mark?

Very Good, Mark!
