Traffic Filled Hallways

Dear brighton high Administration,

Walking through the hallways at Brighton High School is like being stuck in 6

o'clock traffic going home, it's awful. Hallways are congested during passing periods by

students who stop and collect at a designated spot to talk with friends. In an interview

with a student at Brighton High School, Aj Romero, he clarifies the problem by saying,

“It becomes a problem when you are doing just fine walking to class when all of a

sudden someone walks in front of you and stops, like walking into a tree that just

showed up.” So I've created an action plan to help fix this crisis here at brighton.

First, enforcing consequences for late students by enforcing a new policy which

involves teachers closing and locking doors by the beginning of class and late students will

need to go to the attendance office and will scan in using school issued ID like roar class.

Late students will be logged and strikes will be given to each late student. After 3

tardies/strikes within a 2 week period for a single class students will be given a NC for the

class, the only way for a student to remove the NC is showing up a number of consecutive

days such as four days in a row. At the beginning of the year each teacher will have a section

in their disclosure about the new policy. They will inform students of said policy. Students

and parents will sign the disclosure and return back to the teacher. Success is when

students are able to log in for being late in the attendance office. At the end of each month

the attendance office will look and compare the numbers of late students throughout the

two weeks.

Second, following the first objective, teachers will be assigned a day for acting as a

hall monitor and telling students to go to class. By doing so we will set up by having an

email sent to teachers of a signup sheet for preferred days to come out of their class and tell

students to go to class. This will happen within the first week of the school year. By the

second week in school a schedule will be made and teachers will be notified of their day or

days. Success is when teachers are aware of their days and begin routine. Evidence will be

gathered by the vp walking around and noticing teachers out and around.

This action plan will surely affect the congestion throughout the hallways at

Brighton High school. In forcing policies to get students to get to class faster will not allow

them to stop and talk throughout the whole time of passing period. The goal is not to stop

students from talking with friends but to shorten the time to stop.
