-Good morning, and happy week of prayer to all! God is good, (???) All the time, (???) Amen!

How is
everyone this morning? I hope everyone is doing well and ready to learn. At the end of the message I
will be asking questions, and those who will answer here on front, will get a prize (show prize). There is a
prize so that it maybe might boost you to listen more attentively.

-Ok, Before I start sharing to you God’s message, let us bow our heads for a short prayer. Let’s pray
(prayer).

- So, just to recall, what is the theme of our week of prayer? ("Love in Action") Ayannn, Love in action.
So, what do you guys think is the meaning of Love in action? ‘Love in action’ simply means- When we
show our love to others through our actions. There are many stories in the Bible about “Love in action”.
Our story for today is one of these stories.

-The story that I will share to you is about “The Good Samaritan” (Based on Chapter 27 of EGW’s Christ’s
Object Lessons- “Who is My neighbor?” based on Luke 10:25-37).

-Who here knows the Story of the Good Samaritan? Diba marami naman noh? Even though many of us
knows this story since when we were a child, let us refresh our minds about the parable Jesus told to the
people.

-Among the Jews the question, “Who is my neighbor?” caused endless argument, because the jews and
Samaritans do not like each other. The rabbis/priest spent their lives in ceremonies to make themselves
pure. Touching the poor and “nonbelievers”, they taught, would make them not holy or unclean. Were
they to consider the “unclean” as neighbors?

This question Christ answered in the parable of the good Samaritan. Our neighbors are not only the
people who belong to our church and faith. It has no reference to race, color, or class distinction. Our
neighbor is every person who needs our help. Our neighbor is every soul who is wounded and bruised
by the adversary. Our neighbor is everyone who is the property of God.

-The story begins like this….

STORY TIME: The Parable of the Good Samaritan

A teacher of the Law came up and tried to trap Jesus with a question. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I
do to receive eternal life?” Jesus answered him, “What do the Scriptures say? How do you interpret
them?” The man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your
strength, and with all your mind’; and ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’” “You are right,” Jesus
replied; “do this and you will live.”
But the teacher of the Law wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus
answered with a parable, “There was once a man who was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when
robbers attacked him, stripped him, and beat him up, leaving him half dead. It so happened that a priest
was going down that road; but when he saw the man, he walked on by on the other side. In the same
way a Levite also came there, went over and looked at the man, and then walked on by on the other
side. But a Samaritan who was traveling that way came upon the man, and when he saw him, his heart
was filled with pity. He went over to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them; then
he put the man on his own animal and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. The next day he
took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he told the innkeeper, ‘and
when I come back this way, I will pay you whatever else you spend on him.’”
And Jesus concluded, “In your opinion, which one of these three acted like a neighbor toward the man
attacked by the robbers?” The teacher of the Law answered, “The one who was kind to him.” Jesus
replied, “You go, then, and do the same.”

- Isn’t this a wonderful story? It is filled with lessons, we can apply to our lives. Some of the lessons I got
from this story are the 2 greatest commandment.
The first is “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Meaning, when we love God with all our heart/soul/mind we would be willing to do anything for God.
We would make Him our priority in life. Above all else we would put Him first. And, when we put Him
first, He will surely bless us and help us.
And the second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. Diba, when we love God, we want to share his love
and our love to others? Like the good Samaritan, he showed his love to a stranger, by willingly being
kind to him and by bandaging him as if he was his closest friend. As it says in Luke 6:31- “Do unto others
as you would have them do unto you.” We should show our love to others as we would want them to
show their love to us. When we are kind to others, God will send kind people to us. When we help
someone in need, God will also send people to help us when we are in need. So, let us show our love to
the people around us by appreciating them, caring for them, and by helping them in their challenges.

-Other than those examples, I would also like to share with you the 3 main points about love from this
story:

1.) Love knows no bounds- In the story, we learned that Jews and Samaritans don’t like each other. The
Samaritan had lived the principle, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” He showed that he was
more righteous than those who call themselves holy. Risking his own life, he helped the wounded
stranger as if he was his brother. This Samaritan represents Christ. Our Savior manifested for us a love,
that the love of man can never equal. When we were bruised and dying, He had pity upon us. He did not
pass us by on the other side, and leave us, helpless and hopeless, to perish. He did not remain in His
holy, happy home, where He was beloved by all the heavenly host. He saw our sore need, He undertook
our case, and identified His interests with those of humanity. He died to save His enemies. He prayed for
His murderers. Pointing to His own example, He says to His followers, “These things I command you,
that ye love one another”; “as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”
-Jesus loved us and showed his greatest love of all by dying on the cross for us. Its says in John 15:13,
“KJV: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Jesus is the
greatest friend we have! He showed no bound for his love to us! He died for every single one of us! Rich
or poor, peasant/royalty, tall/short, different or the same, He loves us. Isn’t that amazing? The creator of
the world, the creator of the universe, the Son of the Highest king died for us, the lowliest of all. So, If
we love God because He first loved us, we should love all for whom Christ died for. And, with Jesus’
help, we are able to love the people around us with no bounds at all.

2.) Love expects nothing in return- The story says that the Samaritan went over to the Jewish man,
poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them; then he put the man on his own animal and
took him to an inn, where he took care of him and paid for his stay. It did not say that the Samaritan
wanted the Jewish man to pay him back after he was well or was in debt to him, but he genuinely
wanted the man to heal and be taken care of. He even said “when I come back this way, I will pay you
whatever else you spend on him.”
For this point I would like to share a quote by Katherine Hepburn and Timber Hawkeye “Love has
nothing to do with what you are expecting to get- only what you are expecting to give- which is
everything. What you will receive in return varies. But it really has no connection with what you give.
You give because you love and cannot help giving.” “Give love without asking for anything in return, not
even a “Thank you.” That is unconditional kindness; everything else is ego”
It also says in Luke 6:35-36: “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without
expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most
High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

It says in these texts that we should love with expecting nothing in return. That is unconditional
kindness. And if we do love the people around us (both our friends and enemies if we have) without
expecting anything from them, we are grateful to have a Father who keeps track of our good deeds and
in return will bless and reward us abundantly. Remember, when we love the people around us, it is not
because you want to please them and get worldly praise, but because you want to please our Father in
heaven.

3.) Love intends to heal and help- In the story, the Jewish man was robbed and left to die on the road. It
is also the same in our time. There are many who make mistakes and feel depressed after. We should
not neglect these people, these classmates, these teachers, these friends. They are our “neighbors” that
need healing. When one is in need of your time, of your friendship, of some hopeful words- words that
will increase their confidence and turn their hatred to love or desperation to hope, give it.

Those people who are sick in spirit, needs us. Did you feel insecure at one time? Weak, having self
doubt, or sadness? Its ok! Because, those experience help you sympathize with those who are broken in
spirit. Those experiences can help us and effectively comfort others.
-Because of Jesus’ love and compassion for us humans, he healed those who are spiritually sick,
physically weak, he rose people from the dead, he made the blind see, the lame walk, and he casts out
demons. When we needed him, he was there to help. No matter who that person was, Jesus was there
to heal and help him. Jesus was always there to help us. Like Jesus, we should help others, out of our
love for them. Because, out of love everything flows. When we love, it heals people. When we love we
help people. When we love, it makes people smile and happy. It says in Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart
doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” When we love, it makes people happy.
And When we make someone happy or their heart happy, It says in our verse that it is like medicine.
And what does medicine do? Medicine prevents diseases, it heals, and it cures. So when we love, love
results to healing and helping.

-That is our 3 main points of our story. It is about love. God is love. That is why when we love God, we
should love the people around us.

-So to recall again, what is the 3 main points of our story today? It is: Love has no bounds, Love expects
nothing in return, and love intends to heal and help. I hope you guys will remember these point and will
apply it to your daily lives.
