KNOWLEDGE, PERCEPTIONS AND PREVENTION PRACTICES ON COVID-19 AMONG

GRADE 12 STUDENTS OF NORTHEASTERN MINDANAO COLLEGES

Summary

The widespread of the Covid-19 virus in the Philippines has greatly and remarkably

impacted the state, especially in education sector. There was a crisis happened in the state

including the cease of school activities. Among the school institution that was affected by the

said virus was the Northeastern Mindanao Colleges in Surigao City due to the rising number of

cases in the locality. Therefore, we have conducted a timely and relevant research study to know

the knowledge, perceptions and prevention practices on Covid-19 among grade 12 students of

Northeastern Mindanao Colleges.

We have decided to not look for any further respondents from other schools. Hence, the

respondents of this research study were also students of NEMCO from the 12th grade. The

online questionnaire included questions on knowledge, perceptions and prevention practices on

COVID-19 among grade-12 students of Northeastern Mindanao Colleges. All total of NEMCO

students were finally included in the study, there are (5) questions in the questionnaire and the

majority of these students had a good level of knowledge about Covid-19. The data gathered

from this research instrument were tallied and computed for interpretation according to the

frequency of items checked by the participants. Along with primary data, the researchers also

made use of secondary resources in the form of published articles and literatures to support the

survey results.
The frequency count and percentage computation were used to assess all the data

collected from the respondents. The profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, grade levels,

and course/strand was ascertained using this kind of static tool.

Findings

There were a total of 17 respondents of this research study who have provided their

personal information that were asked about by the researchers. This only includes their gender

and age. 16 respondents have provided their gender: 7 males, 9 females, and 1 never answered.

It was found out that 43.8% is all male and 56.3% is all female.

The respondents however have varying ages, ranging from 19 to 21 years old. There were

4 respondents whose age is 19 which accumulated a total 25%, 5 respondents whose age is 20

which accumulated a total of 31.3%, 7 respondents whose age is 21 which accumulated a total of

43.8%, and 1 respondent never answered.

Conclusion

Students are one of the most affected individuals brought up by the impacts of Covid-19

virus. It was known that regardless of gender and age, everyone was affected by the very

pandemic. Knowingly, it was identified that there is more female respondents than male

respondents in Northeastern Mindanao Colleges and more of 21 years old than 20 and 19 years

old. It is quite acceptable to conclude that grade 12 students of this school institution were also
greatly affected of the said pandemic because they were able to answer the questions given to

them by the researchers.
