Share a personal experience where you have exhibited functional literacy. What life lessons and
values have you realized and learned?
I exhibited functional literacy when I was completing a college course in history. In order
to do well in the course, I had to use my reading and comprehension skills to understand
complex historical texts and theories. I also had to use my writing skills to create well-
researched and well-written papers on historical topics. Additionally, I had to use my critical
thinking skills to analyze and interpret historical events and develop my own ideas and
arguments. By exhibiting functional literacy in these areas, I was able to successfully complete
the course and earn a good grade.
The lesson I learned from this was is the importance of developing and using a range of
literacy skills in different areas of life. By demonstrating functional literacy in reading, writing,
and critical thinking, I was able to successfully complete a college course and gain new
knowledge and skills. This experience shows that having strong literacy skills is essential for
success in many aspects of life, including education, work, and personal growth. It also shows
the value of continuing to learn and develop my literacy skills throughout life, in order to adapt to
new challenges and opportunities.
