FREE FALLING BODIES

OBJECTIVES:

APPARATUS/MATERIALS: 1 big marble, golf ball, roll – on, ping – pong ball,
jackstone, stop clock, tape measure and string

SET – UP:

1
THEORY OF DISCUSSION:

PROCEDURE:

1. Measure the height of the ground floor to a certain point in the second floor using
a string. Measure the length of the string used by the tape measure in meters.
2. Drop the each ball one at a time from the certain point in the second floor which
was measured. Measure the time when the ball was released in the second floor
until it hits the ground floor.
3. Make at least three trials for each of the balls.
4. Compute the average time of the balls when they reached the ground floor.
5. Compute for the acceleration due to gravity “g”.

𝐒 = 𝟎. 𝟓𝐠𝐭 𝟐

6. Compare the g of the five balls and compare them with the true value by
computing the percent difference.
