b. explain how the carbureted fuel system functions in an internal
combustion engine; and
c.

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities

Teachers Activity Students Activity

1. Prayer
Our Father, Who art in
Can someone lead the prayer? heaven,
(Call a student) Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Let us all stand for a prayer. Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily
bread.
And forgive us our
trespasses,
as we forgive those who
trespass against us.
And lead us not into
temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

2. Greetings

Good Morning Class…

Good Morning Miss!
Good Morning Classmates…

3. Setting the Classroom

Standard

Before you take your seats, pick

up pieces of trash under your
chairs and arrange your chairs
according to its rows and (Students are picking up trashes and
columns. throwing them in the class bin and
arranging their chairs properly)
Are you now all settled, class?

Last meeting, I have set classroom

rules and regulations for you to follow Yes Miss!
during our class session. Am I right,
class?

Yes Miss!

(the student will stand and recite the

class rules)
Now, who can still recall what the
classroom rules are? (Call a student)

Raise your right hand if you want to

answer and left hand if you want to be
Yes that’s right, Very Good… excused.
What Else?

Yes John?

We agreed to listen when somebody is

talking.
Very Good, John!

Next, Fiona?

Respect your teacher and your

Very Good, Fiona! classmates.

What else?
Yes, Clark?

We also agreed to turn off cellphones

and other gadgets during class hour.
Okay, very good!
I hope that those agreed classroom
rules will always be followed for us to
be organized and disciplined. Okay, can
I expect that, class?
Yes Miss!

Okay, that’s good to hear from

you class.

4. Checking of Attendance

Who is the secretary of this

class?

Okay, Rose Jean since you are

the secretary of this class, list (Rose Jean raising her hand)
the names of absent today in I am the secretary miss…
you class blue book.

Yes Miss, Noted!

5. Review

We are done with our

previous topic. Let us recall
what you have learned about the
discussion last meeting? Okay,
what is our discussion last
meeting?

Yes, Jovanie?

Yes, Very Good!

Yesterday, we discussed about
Now, Can you recall to me what the Charging System, miss…
Charging System is?

Yes, Jelou?

Restores to the battery the charge

Very Good, Jelou! removed to crank the engine.

So, What are the parts of

Charging system?
The main components of Charging
Yes, Marvin? system are Alternator, Voltage
regulator, and Battery.
Very Good, Class…

I’m glad you have gain learning

from our previous topic.

Now, Let us proceed to our new

topic today.

6. Motivation
( The students looking at the picture)
The teacher shows a picture of a
battery and students will
identify what are it and its use.

Before we proceed to our new

topic, I will be presenting you a
picture.

Okay class... what is the picture Miss, it is a battery and it is

all about? mostly used in cars,
Motor cycles, etc.

Yes, June?

Yes, you have an idea June…

Yes class... all of your idea is

accepted and it is correct.

Now, based on the picture I

presented, what do you think is
our topic for today class?

Anyone from the class.

It is all about Brake System, Miss…
Yes, Jhon?

Yes, Maybe.

Okay, I will reveal our topic today and

eyes on the board!

The topic that we are going to discuss Battery System!

is all about “everybody read!
B. Lesson Proper
Before we proceed to our proper (The students reading the objectives)
discussion, kindly read first our
objectives.

At the end of the one- twenty minute At the end of the one- twenty minute
period, the students should be able to: period, the students should be able to:
a. identify the different types of a. identify the different
batteries; types of batteries;
b. discuss the flow of battery b. discuss the flow of
operation from (-) to (+); and battery operation from
c. draw the automotive battery (-) to (+); and
constructions and its parts. c. draw the automotive
battery constructions
and its parts.
(The teacher discusses the battery
system)
Battery System

• Electrochemical device that

converts chemical energy to
electrical energy
• Stores chemicals (that generates
electricity)
• Supplies electricity to the
starting motor and other
electrical device.

• Chemical components
- Sponge/Pure lead – negative
plate
- Lead oxide – positive plate ( The students will listen to the
- - Sulphuric acid – chemical use discussion)
in electrolyte
• Electrolyte – a mixture of 40%
sulfuric acid and 60% distilled
water
• Current (I) – flow of electron
unit –ampere

• Voltage (E) – pushes the

electron unit – volts

• Resistance (R) – use to control

the electric circuit for
protection, operation, or current
control. Unit – ohms

• Hydrometer – a device used to

measure the specific gravity of
the battery

• Amphour (AH) - an ampere

hour (abbreviated ah, or
sometimes amp hour) is the
amount of energy charge in a
battery that will allow
one ampere of current to flow
for one hour. An ampere is a
unit of measure of the rate of
electron flow or current in an
electrical conductor.

• Operation

Discharge
-Lead oxide will push the electrons
from the electrolyte towards the sponge
lead that creates electrical current then
supply it to the load device.

Charge
- Electrons produce by the battery
charger enters to the positive plate then
the electrons will cause reaction in the
sulfuric acid and water to restore its
electrons.
• Battery charging connection
1. Series (+) to (-) – adds voltage
2. Parallel (+) to (+), (-) to (-) – adds
current
3. Series parallel – adds current and
voltage (4 battery connections)

• Multi tester (multi meter)

Voltmeter – measures voltage
Ammeter – measures current
Ohmmeter – measures resistance

• Battery ratings
- Reserve capacity
- Cold – cranking capacity

• Factors that affect the ability of

the battery in delivering current
- State of charge
- Temperature
- Discharge rate

 Battery maintenance
 Visual inspection
 Cleaning the top, terminals and
cable clamp
 Testing the battery
 Charging the battery

VISUAL INSPECTION

methods of charging
1. Slow charge – charges few amperes
in several hours
2. Fast charge – typically 30-amps
charging rate in just 30 minutes.

C. Application

Directions: Draw the automotive

battery constructions and its parts. This
is an individual activity. You should
locate the different parts of battery
system and how it works.

Is there any question?

Class, I will give you 30 minutes to finish

your work

Okay very good!

Okay, settle yourself class.

D. Generalization

Now, let me ask you class.

What will happen to a battery without

maintenance?

Yes Joie?

Very good Joie!

What is the different with a common

battery that is use in the flashlight,
remote control or toys
Yes, Mark?

Yes very good class!

E. Evaluation

A. Give at least two types of battery

(oral questioning)
(Calling the student individually)

B. Perform battery test with 5

minutes( performance test)

(Calling the student individually to

perform)

F. Assignment
 Research and study about the
Brake System

Are there any questions, class?

That’s good to hear!

That’s all for today.

Everybody stand!
Goodbye class!

No, Miss!

Yes Miss!

(The student finish their work and

submit it)
It will be dehydrate and discharge and
the sulfate hardens that mark it hard to
change

Miss, the automotive battery is big,

while an ordinary battery small and
does not use water solution.

(The first student started the oral

recitation)

(The first student started the

performance)

No, Miss!

Goodbye, sir Joel!

Goodbye, classmates!
