Introduction

Over recent years, drones known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are rapidly gaining popularity.
The drone is basically an aircraft that can be flown without a human pilot on board, even controlled
autonomously or from a distance through a pilot. Drone technology was first developed by the
world's innovators and military as balloons, torpedoes, and airborne targets. Drones have been used
by militaries all over the world since the middle of the 19th century for training, target shooting,
aerial bombardment, bomb detection, surveillance, and captive negotiations. In an attempt to seize
Venice in 1849, the Austrian Navy employed 200 incendiary balloons. By the early 1900s, the US
military was investigating drone technology to create practice targets for training. Drone technology
is now available to customers to a certain level, and even more drone technologies will likely be open
to the general public in the coming years. Initially, drones were used exclusively in the military area
for warfare in distant regions like Afghanistan. Small drones for the general public are becoming
more accessible and affordable, and they are now more readily available for sale. Now, people can
buy mini drones online or in electronics stores. Moreover, drones with professional-grade cameras
and enhanced video capabilities are available to purchase. Most of these drones do not weigh much
and have a limited range to fly within (Custers, 2016).

To this end, this paper discusses a comprehensive study on the rise of drones, the current state of
drone technology usage in warfare and the commercial sector, and its future aspects.

Methodology

Every piece of information used in this study was obtained from the internet. To find information,
standard search engines such as Google and Google Scholar were used. Online website articles,
research papers, studies, online journals from respected organizations, and other certain websites
were quite useful in collecting data for this study. Wikipedia has been avoided due to the lack of
authenticity in its contents. The APA citation style is used, and the sources are listed in the
"References" section.

The Evolution of Drones

The evolution of drone technology that exists today was primarily driven by warfare. It was first
realized by military forces all around the world, and the industry has since expanded. However,
drones are now used for a variety of things, including cinematography, surveillance, research, and
other things, although their primary application is still for military activities. Because of their rising
efficiency and lower production costs, drones have become a central point of function for many
organizations and businesses in recent years. Drones are now proving to be incredibly useful in
regions where a man cannot successfully reach or execute, from speedy deliveries to surveying
unreachable territory overseas.
