What I Need to Know

Hello Grade 7 learners! This module was designed and written with you
in mind. It is here to help you master the concepts of Gathering Statistical
Data and Organize the Data in a Frequency Distribution Table.

You can say that you understood the lesson in this module if you can:
1. gather statistical data in frequency table, and
2. organize data in a frequency distribution table: ungrouped data.

What I Know
Read each item carefully. Encircle the letter of the best answer.

1. What is the data collected in a survey?

A. frequency B. raw data C. table D. tally
2. Which term pertains to the number of times each class/data occurs?
A. frequency B. raw data C. table D. tally
3. Which method is used in organizing raw data in a compact form by displaying
a series of scores in ascending or descending order, together with their
frequencies?
A. experimentation C. registration method
B. frequency table D. textual method
For numbers 4 – 10
The school head needs to know what interest clubs to offer. She asks Grace,
the Supreme Student Council President, to conduct a survey. Grace tallies the
results of the survey and presents the data in a frequency table.

a. In which barangay/s had the least number of confirmed COVID-19 positive
cases?
b. Among all the barangays within the city, which had the greatest number of
patients recovered?
c. How many barangays are there in Marikina City?
d. How many barangays had no death cases reported during that day?
e. What is the total number of patients recovered have been reported last
April 17, 2020?

What’s New
“Stay at Home, Stay Safe”
(Slogan)

Do you know that during this time of Pandemic you have a very important role
to help flatten the curve of spreading Corona Virus? How?
You are right, by simply following safety reminders and health protocols.

Based on the slogan, construct frequency distribution and answer the following
questions:

a. How many letters were used in the slogan?

b. Which letter occurs most frequently?
c. How many letters were used 3 times?

Now, make a slogan about safety reminder in fighting COVID-19 and answer
the same questions above.

What is It
In a review, individuals typically gather heaps of information, which are
known as raw data. At whatever point the information has numerous
perceptions, it is smarter to order it as indicated by its group and show the
quantity of perceptions happening in every classifications or class in an even
structure. The table got from this strategy for getting sorted out information is
called frequency distribution table.

Frequency distribution table is a table that shows frequencies for

various classifications, upsides of an including factors. It is a distribution of the
total number of observations or frequencies over arbitrary categories in a table.
The table is developed by counting or tallying how often each data value occurs.
It is a technique for getting sorted out raw data in ascending or descending
order of magnitude with their corresponding frequencies. The quantity of events
of a data occurs is called frequency. It is a proportion of the occasions the
information esteem happens in each set of information called data.
Data is often described as ungrouped or grouped.

Ungrouped data is data given as individual data points.

Example 1:

Using the raw data below, construct a frequency distribution table.

2 3 5 1 1 5 4 2 4 4
2 1 1 2 3 4 4 3 1 4
3 3 3 3 1 2 2 2 1 3
5 4 3 4 2 3 2 2 1 1
4 1 3 1 1 4 2 2 2 2

Solution: To construct a frequency distribution table, use the following steps:

Step 1.
Construct a table with three columns. Then
in the first column, write down all the data
values in ascending/descending order of
magnitude.

In this example, the lowest number is 1and

the highest is 5. So, start from 1 in the first
column as shown in the right figure.

Step 2.
Go through the list of data. Make tally
marks for all the entries.
The first number in the list is 2, so put a tally
mark opposite 2 in the second column. The
second number in the list is 3, so put a tally
mark opposite 3.
We continue this process until all entries in
the list are tallied.

Step 3.

Count the number of tally marks for each

number and write it on the third column.

The finished frequency table is shown at

the right.

Example 2:
The following is the results of the survey about the favorite colors of 30 students
of SSS National High School.
GREEN RED RED VIOLET PINK
YELLOW PINK GREEN BLUE BLACK
PINK RED VIOLET GREEN BLUE
BLUE GREEN PINK BLUE PINK
BLACK BLUE RED PINK GREEN
