COURSE DESCRIPTION:

In light of contemporary developments in the integration of Islamic art and its


reformulation in modern architecture, there is a growing need for experts who are able
to combine heritage with contemporary techniques and trends through providing
innovative architectural and urban design solutions.

COURSE OBJECTIVES :

 To introduce students to the world of Islam through its visual arts and architecture,
and to introduce them to the religious and intellectual ideas that underlie them.
 To explore regional differences within this broad world, considering key aspects of
history, culture and geography in each.
 To introduce students to traditional principles of design and techniques in Islamic
architecture worldwide.
 To provide an opportunity to practice thinking, reading, and writing critically about
Islamic architecture.

LEARNING OUT COMES :


1) A study of the Islamic architectural elements and their development to the
present era
2) analyzing different levels of urban environments and study its relationship
with the Islamic architecture, ranging from interior spaces and buildings, to
public and exterior urban spaces, and ending with the city.
3) Choose popular architect in Jordan who worked in this field and observe how
his/her projects developed and how it relates to the well-known concepts of
Islamic architecture.
4) Studying the direct relationship between the function and the external form,
which comes in second place in Islamic architecture after the function, and the
design must not be exaggerated and express directly the use for the
building,and user comfort
5) Linking and clarifying the relationship between sustainable architecture and
Islamic architecture and the clear laws established by Islamic law and texts
that expressed the exploitation and employment of natural resources and the
exploitation of available resources in the environment
6) Presenting models for architect from outside the Islamic world, studying their
architectural designs, and finding out the extent of their influence on Islamic
architecture in those designs.
