Introduction
The availability of our current energy source known as fossil fuel has been
declining in terms of accessibility and has major impacts on the environment.
These fuels can be oil used to make car fuel, coal to generate electricity and they
are used to power our factories and modes of transportation. If we succeed at
reaching international climate goals the fossil fuel system which supports about
80% of global energy consumption will mostly retire over the next few decades.
There have been alternative energy sources and implementations however arising
concerns and the complex fossil fuel system is not so easy to change from. The
clean energy system will ensure a safe environment, as it will reduce the case of
harmful processes of obtaining energy. The measures taken to ensure a smooth,
comfortable transition includes ensuring job security, system that will prevent
unexpected energy failure or to ensure that the energy is indeed reliable. Fossil
fuel system is a complex network of high hazard industries that need to be able to
continue to operate safely until the new system is completely ready to take over. A
transition from fossil fuel energy system to clean energy system is expected and
should be planned properly to avoid uncertainties and casualties.

2. Student B (Initial & Surname):
TED talk Summary
In some developed countries several gas stations suffered from the effects of
implemented clean energy systems, a small energy plan had to be shut down when
a whole town went off the energy grid and now rely on solar energy as their primary
source of energy, the Tesla model cars are a mode of transportation that runs on

2
electricity and require electricity generated by a solar powered charging point in the
form of large batteries that are placed around the city for tesla model cars to refuel
for free. The world will be pushed to use clean energy due to the ever-declining
availability of this energy source and its negative impact on our environment. If we
succeed at reaching the international climate goals of clean energy, the fossil fuel
infrastructure system will gradually collapse. However, there are quite a few things
that need to be taken to consideration if we aim undergo changes smoothly. The
transition is predicted to take decades which will lead us to our mid-transition. In our
mid-transition we will be half-way through implementing clean energy for everyone
while phasing out the old energy systems as an attempt to completely cut off the
use of fossils until their impacts on the environment are nullified. The transition will
have a huge impact mostly on people. Jobs will be lost; it will take time for people to
trust the change to the clean energy system. In all giving them the mobility to live.
On the other side if deadlines to cut off things that require fossil fuel and replace
them with the ones that require clean energy. Skills can be integrated into working
environments so that workers can secure their jobs by learning new systems
practically, this way the transition will be much better, and trust will be gained. The
future of gas or fuel stations is uncertain, but one thing is clear they will need to
adapt to the change.

Justification
When the world goes electric, there will be change on how we consume and
generate energy. This shift towards electric power will have many positive impacts
in our environment, economy and society. Below are the justifications on what
happens when the world goes electric.

There will be Reduction in gas emissions, Electric vehicles produce no tailpipe

emissions, which means that they emit no carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and
other harmful pollutants into the air. This reduction in emissions can help to slow
3
down the process of global warming and reduce the negative impacts of climate
change. Increased energy efficiency, Electric vehicles are more energy efficient
than gasoline powered vehicles. They convert up to 80% of energy stored in their
batteries into motion, while gasoline engines typically only convert about 20% of
energy stored in gasoline into motion. Electric vehicles have fewer breakable
components than gasoline powered vehicles and can help owners save money.
Reduction in oil dependence: As more vehicles shift to electric power, there will be
a reduced dependence on oil as a source of energy. Lower operating costs:
Electric vehicles have lower operating costs than gasoline powered vehicles. They
require less maintenance and have lower fuel costs, this reduction in operating
costs can lead to important savings for consumers and businesses over lifetime of
the vehicle. The increased energy efficiency means less energy is wasted during
the process of a moving vehicle, leading to a reduction in overall energy
consumption. Increased demand for renewable energy: As the demand for electric
power increases, there will be a corresponding increase in the demand for
renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydroelectric power.

4. Student D (Initial & Surname):
Five issues explained
Job loss-People might lose their jobs due to low skills as the clean energy system
may require high skilled workers only. Shift in business model-gas stations may
need to change how they operate to accommodate electricity vehicles which can
be expensive. Demand in more charging stations-with the rise of more electric
vehicles gas stations may need to adapt to the clean energy system by installing
charging stations however this could be expensive. Bankruptcy, gas stations may
experience a decline in sales, which could lead to decreased profits and potentially
the closing of some gas stations. Decrease in gasoline demand, as many people
switch to clean energy system the there will be less demand of demand and many
gasoline companies may shut down. Another raised is how depending on a
declining source of energy will eventually lead to energy constraints in the near
future as the world continues to run on more energy. Companies continue to leave
waste material that end up in lakes, rivers, dams and other parts of the
environment. The process of extracting and processing these resources is also

4
risky and dangerous, a lot of safety measures come into play and even with those
a lot of people have ended up being harmed. The dependence on fossil energy led
to comfort as companies use these resources in a way that maximises profit rather
than focusing on alternative energy processes that are now possible with our
current technological advancements. Organisations continue to rely on fuel as they
see it as cost effective and reliable at the time being, that however, will not be case
when the resource completely runs out

Controversial issues raised
During the phase in which both systems will be in mid-transitioning phase as the
world changes to a clean energy source. This mid-transition may last for decades,
and it will mean that a lot of sudden changes will arise simultaneously. Both the
fossil fuels and clean energy systems are too small to supply all our needs,
however, their operation on its own so big that they simply can’t operate without
constraining each other. Overlaps will occur as the systems old system will be less
functional because they will still operate outside of the new design system, and we
are not entirely sure of what the new systems should be able to handle. Since we
depend so much on energy sources such as gas/fuel for transportation, for running
mechanical parts and for the process of making energy- it requires a lot of trust
and innovation ambitions for a smooth transition into a new system within a
society. This means that people might not feel at much up to the ask, waiting
decades for an energy transition reduces the confidence of investors and
individuals, and thus the process of transition is further prolonged while the energy
we rely on continues to deplete. As companies run out of business there comes a
time where they must dispose or clean up the by-products of their activity. These
may include chemical spillages, recycling harmful waste material safely. Since
most of the facilities will start to close with a short notice and no future plans of
action, the jobs at facilities such as powerplants will be lost if they are not correctly
transitioned and shaped into the new system. Much extra funding is a prerequisite
because companies tend to file for bankruptcy in to avoid paying the pension funds
5
of their workers.

Lessons learned
It requires commitment to the end point and to proactively ensure people to thrive,
this earns trust. Being honest with people about what is coming will encourage
them to listen to your suggestions for innovativeness. It requires commitment to
the endpoint and to proactively ensure people that new systems are a way to
thrive. Untimely and unplanned transitions are common, and this is what will
happen if we continue to rely on a depleting source of energy instead of
transitioning to a clean source of energy such as solar energy which is also cheap.
Such a change can potentially shape the way in which people see the world and
help them also seek innovative solutions. Job security will be the most challenging
issue if we do not integrate new systems and equip employees the skills that can
be useful in the new energy system.
