Steps to Enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Prerequisites for enrolling in MFA:
 Be connected to the Halliburton network (on-site or VPN)

This guide walks you through the steps to enroll in MFA. It captures the steps for registering with the default
methods, which include the Microsoft Authenticator app and phone. Note the following exceptions:
 If you do not wish to use the Microsoft Authenticator app from a mobile device, you are able to register
for alternate methods of authentication: personal email, phone, and security questions.
 If you do not have access to a personal or Halliburton-issued mobile device, a Halliburton-issued
DeepNet hard token can be used as 1 of 2 verification methods. Contact ITSC to register your hard
token.

Follow the steps below to enroll in MFA.

1. While on the Halliburton network, go to http://am. Click Next on the More information required screen.
2. In the Keep your account secure screen, you will be directed to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Note: if you prefer to use another method of authentication other than the app, click here for
instructions.

3. Using your mobile device, go to the Google Play or the Apple App Store and search for and install
the Microsoft Authenticator app.
4. Click Next on your PC screen once you have downloaded and installed the app.
5. On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app and accept any requests or notifications to
access your phone’s camera, contacts, etc.
a. Select Add Account.
b. Select Work or school account from the What kind of account are you adding? screen.
c. Select Continue if prompted with “Do you have a backup”.
6. Switch to your PC screen and click Next.

7. Open the Authenticator app on your phone and scan the image from the Scan the QR code
screen. Click Next.
a. Note: If you receive a time out message, refresh your browser to generate a new code.
b. If you are unable to scan the QR code, click Can’t scan image? for alternate directions.

8. When the scan is successful, the Authenticator app will be verified on your phone. Click
Approve on your device.
9. Return to your PC and click Next once you approve the notification sent to the app.
a. The next screen prompts you to enter a verification phone number.
b. Type your phone number and select either Text me a code or Call me.
c. Then, click Next. A verification code will be delivered to you via your selected method.
10. In the next screen, enter in the verification code and click Next.

11. Click the Next button in the next screen once you have verified successfully.
12. Once both methods have been successfully confirmed, you MUST click Done in the final
screen to complete your Account Management registration.
Note: If you do not click Done in this screen, you may have to re-validate your
registration the next time you login using MFA.

The one-time enrollment requires two authentication methods (app and phone), but it is recommended
that you set up additional methods in case any of the two are not available. Additional methods for
authentication include: personal email, security questions and a different phone number than the one
used to register. See the Account Management - Manage Authentication Methods guide for
directions.

If you wish to use other authentication methods than the Microsoft Authenticator app on a mobile
device, follow the directions below.

1. Click I want to setup a different method

2. For Method 1 of 2, select Phone from the drop-down list and click Next. Type the phone number (land line
or mobile) and select to receive a text or call to authenticate. Click Next.

3. For Method 2 of 2, click I want to setup a different method and select your preferred secondary method.
Click Next. Enter your personal email or responses to five security questions and click Next.
