The word Geography is derived from the Greek word geo (the Earth, in its broadest meaning)
and graphos (graphy, to write about). Literally, to write about the Earth. Often this has meant
just learning about countries, their crops, landforms and people -- the "states and capitals"
approach if you will
Five Themes of geography:
Location.
Place.
Human-Environment Interaction.
Movement.
Region.
There are three main strands of geography:
Physical geography: nature and the effects it has on people and/or the environment.
Human geography: concerned with people.
Environmental geography: how people can harm or protect the environment.
cultural environments of the world, and thus, prepare us to be better global citizens.
2.The key aim of teaching geography is to develop international understanding among students.
Understanding societies, nations, peoples, problems around distinct places of this diverse
planet automatically build international understanding.
Geography helps provide all those ideas about the types of mountain ranges, the types of water
bodies, the types of landmasses, and how all these deeply impact the lives of humans. Thus
knowing geography is essential for humans. From the beginning of civilization, humans have
been curious about space.
