MACHINE TOOLS Vertical Machining Center

4. OPERATION
The purpose of this manual provides the basic operation of the machine and only covers the
set-up procedures. For any other information, you must refer to the CNC controller operation
manual.

4-1. Operation Panel (Ⅰ): For FANUC Oi MC CNC control

4-2. Machine control panel: For FANUC Oi MC or MELDAS 64M series

(1) POWER ON: Press this button to power on the controller.

(2) POWER OFF: Press this button to Power off the controller

(3) MODE SELECT:

EDIT: By Editing, Alter, Insert, Delete for the program, or input/output the data.

TAPE: For uses of DNC Transmission (from PC computer to CNC controller


for Program transmission)

AUTO: Automatic program execution mode.

MDI: Manual data input.

HANDLE: Manual mode selection.

JOG: Jog feeding.

ZERO RETURN: Uses for three axes for return to the “machine reference point"

(4) RAPID: Press Axis + Key or Axis – Key, keep and hold the axis key (the movement
will stopped while release). The specify axis will be moving according to the
rapid rate. The "MODE SELECT" switch should be selected to "JOG" mode.

(5) FEEDRATE OVERRIDE & JOG FEEDRATE SELECTION:


Feedrate override with knob uses for the F command in the MDI or AUTO.
JOG Feedrate with knob uses for the feedrate in the JOG mode.

(6) RAPID TRAVERSE FEEDRATE:


The feedrate of rapid traverse select by turning the knob.

(7) SPINDLE SPEED OVERRIDE %.


The spindle speed rate select by turning the knob from 50% to 120%.
Note: Be sure to confirm the S value when the manual spindle speed is used.

(8) O.T RELEASE:


Over travel release, normally, there is a limit switch for every axes to detect
over travel. If any over travel switch is touched, system status will change to
OT- READY (or show OT alarm) and no more moving any axes, In such case,
press down the OT REL button to release OT protection and use MPG hand-
wheel (in HANDLE mode) or JOG operations to move axis to normal position.

(9) SINGLE BLOCK:


After executing one block of program, machine will stop.

(10) Block deletion:


A block include “ / “ in a program will be neglected.

(11) Dry Run:


Machine will move with jog feedrate in cycle operation and the F command
will be neglected.

(12) Air on during machining: (Optional)


The machine in automatic operation, when the program executing the M15, The air
will be automatic blasted the air from a spray nozzle and the program executing
the M16 the air will be off.

(13) Optional stop:


machine stops after executing "M01" command block.

(14) Machine Lock:


“ON”- when execute a program or handle, the coordination point keep on showing,
machine will hold on un-move. Performing the zero return for each axes after the
switch "OFF". The G, M, S and T codes are not effected by the machine lock
switch.

(15) Automatic Power off Switch: (optional)


“ON”- after execute the M30, about 20 second later, the machine will be automatic
cut off the power. But before the power off, if press down “RESET” or off this
switch the automatic will be lose efficacy.

(16) Coolant A Power on/off:


In automatic operation, when the program executing the M08, the coolant will be
“ON” and the program executing the M09 the coolant will be off.

(17) Coolant B Power on/off: (Coolant through the spindle)


In automatic operation, when the program executing the M17, the coolant will be
“ON” and the program executing the M18 the coolant will be off.

(18) Work light.


. Turn on/off the work light.

(19) Spindle Orientation:


Press the switch to performing the manual spindle orientation.

(20) Spare Switch:


For Coolant through the spindle.

(21) Chip Conveyor CW:


The chip conveyor rotates in clockwise direction.

(22) Chip Conveyor CCW:


The chip conveyor rotates in counter clockwise direction.

(23) ATC CW: (Clockwise rotation)


In “manual mode” when pressing once, the magazine rotates by one tool position.
If pressing continuously, the magazine rotates until the button released.

(24) Door open and close:


Under MPG mode, Spindle stop rotating, the enclosure door can be
Opened and closed by hand, or it is not opened under auto mode,
Until stopping program and spindle stop operating.

(25) Spindle rotation with clockwise direction :


Activates the spindle rotation in CW direction at the "Manual" mode.

(26) Spindle stop:


Stop the spindle rotation at the "Manual" mode.

(27) Spindle rotation with counterclockwise direction.


Activates the spindle rotation in CCW direction at the "Manual" mode.

(28) Data protect Key:


Turn off this key (CCW direction) to disable the NC edit function

(29) Cycle Start:


Start automatic operation or cycle command.

(30) Feed Hold:


Stop the automatic operation, temporarily.

(31) Emergency Stop:


Use for emergency status occurring to stop machine operation.

(32) X Axis Traverse in Positive Direction.


Move the X axis to the "+" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(33) Y Axis Traverse in Positive Direction.


Move the Y axis to the "+" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(34) Z Axis Traverse in Positive Direction.


Move the Z axis to the "+" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(35) 4th Axis Traverse in Positive Direction.


Move the 4th axis to the "+" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(36) X Axis Traverse in Negative Direction.


Move the X axis to the "-" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(37) Y Axis Traverse in Negative Direction.


Move the Y axis to the "-" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(38) Z Axis Traverse in Negative Direction.


Move the Z axis to the "-" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(39) 4th Axis Traverse in Negative Direction.


Move the 4th axis to the "-" direction in the "JOG" or "Rapid" mode.

(40) Home position of Axes


The LED lamp will lit when the axes move to the home position.

(41-1) ATC Ready.


When the ATC is ready to change tool and reach to the home position
or finish completely, the LED lamp will light on.

(41-2) M00, M01, M02, M30 LED lamp.

(42) Alarm indicator:


Spindle Alarm: Spindle motor abnormal, Spindle revolution or operation
is Abnormal, the LED lamp will light on and the
message is displayed on the screen.
NC Alarm: NC Controller unit trouble, machine can not operation.
Lube Alarm: Lubrication oil level low or abnormal, the LED lamp will lit
and the message is displayed on screen.
Air Pressure Alarm: Air pressure lower then 5 kg/cm2, the LED lamp
will be lit and the message is displayed on screen.

(43) Machine Ready: When you release the Emergency stop, you should
Press down this button for machine ready to start.

(44) Tool Clamp and Unclamp:


Under “MPG” mode, by pressing/releasing this button to unclamp/clamp the
spindle tool.

4-3. Function Operation for FANUC Oi MC or MELDAS 64SM CNC Control

4-3-1. Power on and Power off:


A. The machine is equipped with many safety devices and features to prevent human body and machine
damage, but the operator must not rely on these devices and features. Please read thoroughly this
manual and fully understand all special notice before operating the machine.
B. Turn on the power source and switch on the main power switch near the rear of middle on the electric
cabinet, then press the button to power on the control panel, the ready indicator LED lamp will be
light up, please check it.
C. After starting the machine a long break (I.E. at the beginning of the day), please turn on the power
without running the machine for 20 minutes so that lubricant oil can reach all sliding surfaces, then run
all axes at 25% and Spindle at 50 % speed under AUTO Mode for 10-20 minutes, please check the
movements and rotation are normal.

D. Move X and Y axes to the center position or home position, then press power off button and turn off the
Main switch of power source

4-3-2. Home Return:


1. Before execute Home return, move X-Y & Z axes to the middle of their
travels by using the handle wheel (MPG). Or all axes only have to be
more than 100 mm from Home position, it is not really necessary to be in
the middle of travels
2. Please refer the Home direction show on the left side drawing.

The Home Return procedure as following:

1. Please set mode select in ZERO RETURN mode.

2. Please set “RAPID TRAVERS FEEDRATE” selection switch. Then adjusting the
Feed rate.

3. Usually, Home return will be safety from Z axes first. (can be avoid the impact of
the machines.)
4. Please press down the +Z for Z axis home return, till the LED lamp light up.

5. When the Z axes is moving toward the Home position, the operator can set axes
direction switch to -X, +Y or +4th Axes, When three axes reach their Home position, the
Home indicator LED lamp will be light up.
6. If the Home indicator LED lamp does not light up, the relative axes has not reached it’s
Home position.

4-3-3. JOG Feed


Adopt this procedure while asking three to have slow manual feed.

b. 1. Set mode select in JOG Mode.

2. Select JOG feed rate.


3. According to the lower data for instance, if you choose the switch at most right
bottom
4.While feeding, the feed will be adjusted accordingly if this switch is turned.

5. To select the axis, Which is going to feed from sub-control panel


1. 6. Axial direction divided to X, Y, Z or 4th.
2. 7. To move according to positive and negative direction what you want.

4-3-4. Rapid Traverse Feed


4-3-5. RAIP FEED

1. Set mode select in JOG Mode.

2. Please set “RAPID TRAVERSE OVERRIDE” selection switch. then adjusting


the Feed rate what you want.
3. 3. Rapid feed rate is set by parameter, standard setting for this machine is
4. 10000 mm/min.
4. Feed rate is calculated by percentage indicated by this switch. (The set rapid
Rate is 100%)
5. Four steps – F0, 25%, 50%, 100%. F0 = 200 mm/min

6. To select the axes, Which is going to feed.


7. Axial direction to X, Y, Z and 4th
8. Press down together with the rapid switch and axial
direction to X, Y, Z or 4th, To move according to
positive and negative direction what you want.

4-3-6. HANDLE

1. Set mode select in HANDLE Mode.

2. In this mode, uses of the handle sets to control the moving speed of X-Y-Z-4th -axes.
(Push right side button of hand sets to enable of hand-wheel to control the moving of 3-axes.)

3. Choose a moving axis.

4. Choose a multiplier (X1, X10, X100, the main that every graduated is 1µm, 10µm,
100µm. or 0.0001”, 0.001”, 0.01”).

5. after the above setting steps, can be used the handle to control movement.

4-3-7. MDI (Manual data input)

1. in this mode a simple program can be inputted directly and execution.


2. In this mode, a simple program can not be memorized, it will be
disappeared after execution.

4-3-8. AUTO

1. In EDIT Mode or press down PRGRM key, call up the program


from the memorized.
2. Set mode select in AUTO mode

3. Press down the Cycle Start for the program automatic execution.
4. Press down the FEED HOLD for the program stop.

4-3-9. EDIT:

1. By editing, Alter, Insert or delete for the program.


2. This mode is only use for editing, can not be used for execution.
3. for editing a new program, must be turned to “EDIT”
4. After finishing the editing, the control will automatically keep it.
5. Inputing/Ouputing the CNC data in this mode.

4-3-10. TAPE

For use of DNC Transmission (from PC computer to CNC controller for Program
or data transmission)

4-14. RS-232 Parameter Setting and Cable connection for DNC transmission
(For Fanuc Oi MC or MELDAS 64SM CNC Control)
