Hudaibiyah Assignment
Hudaibiyah Assignment
The Peace of Hudaibiyah was a treaty signed between Prophet Muhammad and the
polytheistic tribes of Makkah in 628 AD. The treaty was signed after negotiations
took place between the two sides and established a framework for peaceful
coexistence between them.
Background
The Prophet and his followers had left Makkah in 622 AD and migrated to Medina due
to persecution and hostility from the polytheistic tribes of Makkah. Over the
years, the Prophet had built a strong community in Medina, and he had gained
support from other tribes and communities.
In 628 AD, the Prophet and his followers attempted to perform the pilgrimage to
Makkah but were stopped at a place called Hudaibiyah by the polytheistic tribes of
Makkah. After negotiations, a peace treaty was signed between the two sides.
The two sides agreed to cease hostilities and refrain from attacking each
other.
The Muslims were allowed to perform the pilgrimage to Makkah the following year
without any hindrance.
The treaty allowed for a temporary truce and established a framework for
peaceful coexistence between the two sides.
Both sides agreed to abstain from aiding their enemies against each other.
The treaty was to be written by Ali, who was the cousin and son-in-law of the
Prophet, and it was to be signed by the Prophet and the leaders of the polytheistic
tribes of Makkah.
The treaty was significant because it showed that it was possible for the Muslims
and the polytheistic tribes of Makkah to coexist peacefully. It also showed that
negotiations and diplomacy could be used to resolve conflicts, and it established a
precedent for future treaties and agreements.
