WHO AM I?

Nicolas G. Brum – GED101_B72

Mapua University

Personal information

I am Nicolas Guillermo Brum, 18 years old as of

writing. I live in Barangay Sta. Lucia, Pasig City,
which I consider as my hometown throughout the
entire course of my life. I’m currently a first-year
civil engineering student at the Mapua University,
located in Intramuros, Manila. I was born on April
1, 2004. My mother’s name is Ferry Ann G. Brum,
nicknamed as Feng, currently 46 years old, working
as a Chief Communications Officer at the Philippine
Board of Investments (BOI), an attached agency of
the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). My
father’s name is Domingo M. Brum, Jr., nicknamed
as Jun, currently 49 years old, working as the
Special Projects Head at the Manila Times, Inc., a
reputable newspaper company with headquarters in Manila. I have a younger sister
named Monina G. Brum, nicknamed as Ninay, currently 13 years old, studying as a
Grade 8 student at Sacred Heart Academy of Pasig (SHAP). My hobbies and
interests are swimming, reading books, and watching movies or shows.

High school background

I took my secondary education studies at Pasig City

Science High School (PCSHS), graduating with honors
as part of the Batch ‘22. Throughout my whole SHS
tenure, I served as the Class Vice President during
Grade 12, joined three school clubs, and attended
several webinars, including those that tackle women
empowerment and the LGBTQ+ community. I was
also equipped with skills and knowledge from the
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
(STEM) strand in preparation for my civil engineering
degree at college. As part of our science high school experience, we focused on
scientific research starting Grade 10, in which I worked on group theses involving
life sciences along with some of my former classmates. I also took computer
electives throughout my entire JHS tenure, acquiring a background in
programming and arts design.

My dream career

I’ve always wanted to become a civil engineer in the

future. This nourishment of my dream was supported
by the fact that some of my relatives were civil
engineers, and that I got to be surrounded by the
inner workings of the construction industry. My
plans have been slowly coming into fruition when I
took a course in Civil Engineering at the Mapua
University. I heard about this school from my dad
who has a younger brother (my uncle) that graduated
from the same school. He believed that Mapua
University is the best choice for taking an
engineering course based on the school’s
performance with teaching various engineering
fields, earning a reputation as an ABET-certified
institution, and having added prestigious accreditations and awards in line with the
global and modern standards of teaching.

Personality traits

I personally believe that I’m currently a work in progress. At the same time,
I know that I could be able to describe myself as a person, as I constantly reflect on
my words and actions that I do on a daily basis. Indeed, self-awareness is
important to be able to express oneself in a genuine manner, allowing people
around you to truly understand your perspective in life.
People best describe me as a generous, honest, and kind person. I usually
offer some help to my family and friends whenever they need it, much to the best
of my ability. I make myself available to people whenever I can since I’m lucky
enough to have a laidback perspective in life which they might need when I give
advice. In every interaction, I tend to reciprocate the kind of energy the people
radiate on me. It is my thoughtful way of making people realize their personal
strengths, but also make them be more aware of their mistakes at the same time.
Finally, I always remind myself to be kind in any relationship I have with others,
as I know that they may have their own perspective in any particular situation. I
deeply respect the feelings of other people whenever I can, and I tend to feel bad
whenever I fail to do so in that regard.
