Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

In Health 3

I. Objectives:
      At the end of 50 minutes, the pupils of Grade 3 – Anthony will be able to:
a. Identify the Hazards in our community through the use of a PowerPoint
Presentation.
b. Recommend different ways of ensuring safety during hazardous events.
c. Place natural and man-made hazards into their respective groups using
different picture cut-out.

II. Subject Matter:


             Topic: Hazards in the Community
             Reference: Living with Music, Arts, PE and Health
             Author: Enrico Benjamin N. Reyes, et.al.
             pages: 450 – 453

III. Materials:
 Picture Cut-outs
 Power Point Presentation
 chalk

IV. Teaching / Learning Procedures:

A. Preliminaries
 Cleanliness
 Orderliness
 Prayer
 Attendance

B. Review
 The teacher will be asking the pupils about their previous lesson about Traffic
Safety Awareness

C. Motivational Activity
 The teacher will be giving the students a paper
 The pupils will be asked to fill in their own Superhero ID Card

 The teacher will give the pupils 5 minutes to finish it and will call 5 pupils to
share their work
 They will be guided with the following questions:
 What is your Superhero Name?
 What power would you have?
 What/ who will you battle?
D. Presentation
 After the motivational, The teacher will ask the pupils the following questions
 What does a superhero do?
 What do you think would be our lesson for today?
 Then, the teacher will present the lesson through a PowerPoint Presentation
 The teacher will present the objectives of today’s lesson.

E. Explanation
 The teacher will discuss the lesson

Hazards in Our Community


What are Hazards?
- It is any source of harm or danger to life, property or the community. It may be
classified into 2 categories; Natural and Man-Made Hazards.

Natural Hazards
- These are events that occur due to extreme forces of nature which may cause harm

Examples of Natural Hazards:

 Volcanic Eruption
- Hot materials and gases come out of the volcano
 Earthquake
- Sudden and violent shaking of the Earth’s Surface
 Typhoon
- Extremely powerful and destructive weather disturbance
 Tsunami
- Series of very tall tidal waves caused by earthquake in the ocean

Man-made Hazards
- These are harmful events that occur due to human activities.

Examples of Man-Made Hazards:

 Crimes
- Illegal activities, activities that are against the law
 Violence
- Behavior which aims to hurt or kill someone
 War
- Armed conflict between states or groups which causes death to many
people
 Oil Spill
- Release of petroleum into the ocean which causes destruction of
marine life

 The teacher will then ask the following questions:


 What are Hazards?
 What are the 2 kinds of Hazards in our Community?
 What are some of the example of the Natural and Man-made Hazards?
 How can we tell if it is a Natural or Man-Made Hazard?
 The teacher will call pupils to answer the questions as the lesson moves
along.
F. Activity Proper
 After the discussion, the teacher will then conduct an Activity.
 The teacher will divide the class into two groups
 Then, the teacher will provide pictures of the common Hazards

 Each group will classify each picture into Natural and Man-Made Hazards
within 3 minutes
 If the group classified it correctly, they will be rewarded with 10 points each.

G. Generalization
 The teacher will ask the following questions:
 What are Hazards?
 What are the 2 types of Hazards in our community?
 What are the difference between Natural and Man-Made Hazards?
 How can we avoid harm when we experience these Hazards?
Recommend ways that we may do to avoid any harm.

V. Evaluation
 The teacher will ask the pupils to get their pencil.
 The teacher will conduct a paper and pen assessment.

Identify what is described in each sentence based on their descriptions. Choose your
answers from the words inside the box.

which brings heavy rains with strong winds and may cause flashflood or landslide

VI. Assignment:
 The teacher will give the pupils an assignment with the following
instructions:

On a piece of paper, list down 10 Disasters that took place in the Philippines.
