Main Gas Admission Valve

Engine type This document concerns the following WÄRTSILÄ® engine ref. types:
 32DF power plant engines
 34SG, W34SG

General A top-load main gas admission valve was introduced in 2010, the cartridge
is mounted from the top of the housing, see Figure 1. It replaces the
bottom-load gas admission valve, where the cartridge is mounted from the
bottom, see Figure 2.

The complete top-load and the bottom-load valves are interchangeable.

However, individual parts, including the solenoid, are not interchangeable.

Note! The top-load version has a lower flow coefficient, which might require
adjustment of cylinder specific MFI (Main Fuel Injection) offsets and the
start fuel limiter. Please contact your closest Wärtsilä Services Network for
assistance.

Recommendation Upgrade to the top-load SOGAV 105 valve next time the main gas
admission valves are replaced. Wärtsilä recommend upgrading all main gas
admission valves at the same time.

Instructions For removal and mounting instructions see also the engine specific
Instruction Manual chapter 17, Fuel System.
1. Disconnect the power supply from the WECS/UNIC system.

2. Disconnect the cable from the CCU/CCM and remove the old gas
admission valve.

3. Mount the new gas admission valve. Route the cable to the
CCU/CCM the same way as the previous cable and cut to proper
length.

4. Ground the cable in the cable gland as shown in the enclosed

instructions.

5. Crimp the sleeves to the wire ends with the crimp tool. The wire end
sleeves and crimp tool can be purchased separately from Wärtsilä.
See Ordering section for further information.

6. Connect the wires to the CCU/CCM terminals.

Note! Engines with WECS 3000. The new cable is thicker and the cable gland at
the CCU box needs to be changed. One adapter and cable gland is needed
per main gas admission valve.

Grounding of a shielded standard cable Enclosure 1

1. Screw off the cable gland nut and put it on the cable with the sealing
inside.

2. Cut off the sheath.

3. Put on the washer with larger innerdiameter and cut the braid of
tinned copper wire in the distance of about 2 cm from the washer.

4. Bend the braid of tinned copper wire against the washer.

5. Put on the second washer so that the braid of tinned copper wire is
left between the washers.

6. Cut off the braid sticking out between the washers.

7. Put the cable in the cable gland that is already installed in its position.

8. Screw on the cable gland nut.

9. Cut off the filling compound.

10. Check that there are no damages to the wires and that the nut is
tightened. Optimal tightness is achieved when the sealing swells out
about 1,0 mm.
