- Course Title: Listening-Speaking 4
- Semester: Semester 2, 2022-2023

- Assumed Background: Listening-Speaking 4 which is a compulsory course for the double-majored students requires prior knowledge on the subjects of
Listening-Speaking 3.
- Course Description: This course is designed to improve student’s English language proficiency from B1 to B1 + level according to Common European
Framework of Reference, and to prepare students for standardized tests.

II. OBJECTIVES
This skill-based integrated course aims at developing students’ language proficiency at B1+ level. At the end of the course,

In terms of Listening, students can:
- generally follow and understand the main points of extended discussions/ speech taking places nearby on familiar matters;
- understand announcements and messages on concrete and abstract topics spoken in standard dialect at normal speed; and
- understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
In terms of Speaking, students can:
- communicate with some confidence on familiar routine and non-routine matters such as health, travelling, fashion, etc. related to his/ her interests and
professional fields;
- exchange, check and confirm information, deal with less routine situations and explain why something is a problem;
- express thoughts on more abstract, cultural topics such as films, books, music, etc.; and
- enter unprepared into conversations of familiar topics, express personal opinions and exchange information on topics that are familiar or personal
interest or pertinent to everyday life.

Attendance (10%): Regular attendance must take up at least 80% of class hours. Anyone who fails to fulfill this will not be allowed to
take the end-of-term test.
