1. Answer each question in no more than five sentences.

a. What happened to the early barangays after the establishment of

pueblos and cabeceras?
The barangays were slowly dissolved. This is because the inhabitants were
moved to pueblos. The moving of families was due to persuasion, religion,
and in extreme cases, forced with military involved.

b. What were the different meanings of hacienda? How is it different

from encomienda?
The hacienda is a system which forced natives to work in a land to
produce agricultural products for export or trade. This stemmed from the
encomendia system. This system is the collection of tribute from the
inhabitants to the owner of the land called Encomenderos. Hacienda can
also mean that a land was opened for adventure, exploration, or
agriculture.

c. Explain the effects of reduccion to the movement of people, their

vulnerabilities and exposure to diseases and to hazards in the
environment?
The people were against moving to a populated reduccion. So, they keep
escaping to settle far such as mountains and their old baranggays. This
posed a problem when a disease spreads in the reduccion and it affected
those who escaped, as the friars could not reach the natives who escaped
and find it hard to cure them.

d. In an essay, discuss the role of the missionaries in the establishment

and management of hospitals, asilos and hospicios.
To handle a big population to form a reduccion, facilities were needed to
be built. Plazas, hospitals, schools, and churches were made. The priests,
were at the time, are the educated which means that they handled all
facilities from education, to healthcare.
