OF UNDERSTANDING OF SENIOR HIGH
SCHOOL STUDENTS
Statement of
the Problem
This study was conducted to determine the level of understanding of
the students and identify if explicit teaching is effective for their
learning. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

1.) What is the level of understanding of the students using explicit

teaching in the following subjects:

teaching for the students?
Methods
Upon the conduct of the action research, the researcher sent a letter to
the assistant principal for academic affairs at Koronadal National
Comprehensive High School – Senior High School to inform on the action
that will be taken on viewing the data gathered. Survey questionnaire as
a tool to gather the data are needed for the action research.
The researcher’s objectives and goals on knowing the results of the
survey that could
(a) help the researcher determine the effectiveness level explicit
teaching to the students
(b) to know the level of understanding of the students when teacher use
explicit teaching
(c) to create an intervention that could help the students better
understand their lessons using explicit teaching.
The self-made survey questionnaire was utilized to gather data
that the researcher needed and simple random sampling is
used to get the respondents from grade 12 HUMSS for the said
research. On the proper conduction of the research google
form was used to be the tools of the gathering data. Upon the
interpretation of the data rating scale was used to know the
level of effectiveness of explicit teaching and the level of
understanding of the students when the teacher uses explicit
teaching as a teaching strategy.
On the other hand, mean and standard deviation were used as
the statistical tools in knowing the percentage of the data
gathered.
Results
Table 1 shows that the
implementation of explicit teaching is
effective because based on the result,
students somehow understand the
subject Oral Communication.
table 2 shows that the
implementation of explicit teaching
is effective because based on the
result, students somehow
understand the subject English for
Academic and Professional
Purposes.
table 3 shows that the
implementation of explicit teaching is
effective because based on the result,
students clearly understand the
subject 21st Century Literature from
the Philippines to the World.
table 4 shows that the
implementation of explicit
teaching is effective because
based on the result, students
clearly understand the
subject creative nonfiction.
The overall weighted mean of the indicators
in effectiveness of the teacher in using
explicit teaching fall in the range of 4.08
with the description of Effective. Therefore,
the table 5 shows the effectiveness of the
teacher in using explicit teaching. Which
means that the implementation of explicit
teaching helps the teacher provides
effective classroom delivery.
Conclusions
1.) The level of understanding of the students in
21st Century Literature from the Philippines to the
World subject was described as clearly understand.
On the other hand, in the Creative Nonfiction,
English for Academic and Professional Purposes,
and Oral Communication in Context subjects were
described as somehow understand. This implies
that the student can still learn their lesson in
different subjects even if it is difficult because of
the thorough discussion provided by the teacher.
2.) The level of explicit teaching effectivity
that the teachers used in delivering their
lesson for the student was described as
effective. This implies that through explicit
teaching the student can easily get the gist
of the lesson.
3.) The explicit teaching strategy used by
the teacher in 21st Century Literature from
the Philippines to the World, Creative
Nonfiction, English for Academic and
Professional Purposes, and Oral
Communication in Context subjects is
effective in delivering the lesson to the
students. Therefore, the null hypothesis of
the study accepted.
