1. Importing LMS Virtual.Lab durability
XML files
Importing LMS Virtual.Lab durability XML files
Use the Import LMS Virtual.Lab Durability XML File command to import an LMS Virtual.Lab durability
XML file to Simcenter 3D Pre/Post. During the import process, the software reads the LMS Virtual.Lab
durability XML file, creates Simcenter 3D FEM and Simulation files, and imports the entities of the LMS
Virtual.Lab durability model to each file. During the import process, an information window displays the
import progress by listing the imported features and the unsupported data or properties. The import
progress skips the unsupported data and continues the process.

While the XML file does not contain the mesh information, you can retrieve mesh source files to create a
mesh. The XML file may contain a link to an input or result file that you can choose to create the mesh.
Otherwise, you can specify any input or result file from which the mesh can be extracted.

The software imports data in new FEM and Simulation files. The imported data includes meshes, fields,
groups, physical and material properties, modeling objects, simulation objects, loads, constraints, and
solutions. The Simulation file also contains the converted durability entities, including the specialist
durability load events, simulation objects, analysis types, local definitions, material properties, and
solutions. For more information on imported data, see Supported LMS Virtual.Lab Durability data.

You need to solve the model in the specialist durability solution process to retrieve the durability results.

Note:
To import the LMS Virtual.Lab data, you must first enable the feature toggle in the Feature
Toggles dialog box.

1. Choose File→Utilities→Feature Toggles.

2. In the Description column, locate the Enable import of VLXML files of Specialist
Durability toggle.

3. In the State column for the toggle, right-click and choose On.

Import an LMS Virtual.Lab durability XML file

To import an LMS Virtual.Lab durability XML file, you need to start from a Simulation file.

1. Make the Simulation file the work part and the displayed part.

2. Choose Specialist Durability tab→Virtual Lab group→Import LMS Virtual.Lab Durability XML
File .

3. In the Input Selection group, click Browse to select an LMS Virtual.Lab durability XML file.

4. From the Mesh Source Origin list, select one of the following:

• From XML to select from the mesh source file names that the importer identifies from the links
in the XML file.
In the Mesh Source from XML group, select a mesh source file from the Mesh Source list.

Note:
The software lists the mesh source file names, without checking if the files exist in the
paths that are specified in the XML file. You need to verify this yourself.

• Specify to select any mesh source file you want.

In the Specify Mesh Source group, under File to Import, click Browse to select a mesh
source file.

5. From the Select Solver list, select a supported solver. The list of available solvers depends on the
type of the selected mesh source file.

6. In the Change Unit group, specify the units for the Mass, Length, Time, and Temperature
dimensions for the mesh source file.
