Billet Charging - SOP

STANDARD OPERATING PRACTICE

BILLET CHARGING PROCEDURE ( AUTO MODE)

Permissive for billet deposit device to start is that billet should be in billet sensing position
and the billet device in home position.
AUTO MODE SEQUENCE-
step.1- Select auto mode from pulpit control desk.
step.2- Select the pawl transfer 1&2 i.e.(pawl1+dsb2) right side or (pawl2+dsb3)left side on the
HMI screen(material handling overview).
step.3- In case the billet is not in billet sensing position, pawl moves backwards and then
forward up to the billet sensing position.
step.4- Based on billet presence detection, the cycle of the billet deposit device is started and
places the billet on the roller table.
step.5- Next, the photocell detects billet and the weighing cycle is started.
step.6- Roller table moves billet forward automatically and is stopped by FLS2(disappearing
stopper2)which had moved to 'up" position, the moment the previous billet was
successfully charged into the charge roller table inside the furnace.
step.7- Photocell detects that the billet is in correct position for crowding operation.
step.8- Now billet get aligned by the crowding operation automatically and give signal of
completion of crowding to the HMI of material handling overview screen before
charging inside furnace.
step.9- Ensure that during auto charging the walking beam is in "down" position. Color GREY-
preset on (lamp glow in RT selection)

BILLET CHARGING IN MANUAL MODE

Step 1. Make sure that billet is at the billet sensing position. If it is not, bring it by pawl forward
or reverse button LCS 01 panel.
Step2. Put the billet on roller table using Billet deposit device controlled from LCS01 panel.
Step3. Bring billet forward up to disappearing stopper 2 by pressing forward roll button on
LCS 01 panel.
Step3. Check for length of billet (11780mm to 12220mm), If length is not between the given
length discard the billet.
Step4. Give crowding command from HMI.
Step5. Charge the billet inside the furnace, make sure that walking beam is in down position
while charging.
Step6. Put the billet in such position so that tail of billet lies on the first charging roll.
INSPECTION AND CHECKING

1. Before charging billet to pawl check billets in stack layer for bend and short billets.
2. When billets are on the pawl check for bend and short billets.
3. Keep a constant watch on billets while charging for length of the billet.

IF LENGTH FAULT COMES

If length fault comes while charging of billet in furnace , then follow the following steps-
Step1. Remove the faulty billet from furnace by operating charging rolls manually by control
desk and charging LCS 01 pane-l.
Step2. Bring billet forward up to disappearing stopper 2 by operating from LCS 01 panel.
Step3. Check for length of billet (11780mm to 12220mm), If length is not between the given
length discard the billet. if length is ok then follow the next steps.
Step4. Clear billet from charging rolls by pressing clear billet button from HMI.
Step5. Put the charging bed interface, charge end, walking beam, crowder cycle and discharge
end in auto mode.
Step6. Charge the billet.
