STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR

SOLING UNDER FLOORS / FOUNDATIONS

SCOPE
This Standard Operation Procedure for outlines and provides the guidelines to be followed for Soling
under floors and foundation works for project.

PURPOSE

To execute Soling works in a specific and controlled manner with reference to technical/standard requirement.

(MoHFW), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Govt. of India

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:


 Project Manager: He shall be responsible to guide and give direction to the entire site team to
execute the job as mentioned in this SOP.
 Site Engineer: He shall be responsible for control, supervision and implementation of this SOP at
project site.
 QA/QC Engineer: He shall be responsible to carry out material approval/ field inspection/checking
and facilitate in required test as per ITP.
 Site Supervisor: He shall be responsible to carry out the work as per drawing, specification and SOP .

Implementation of guidelines to be followed in post covid-19 environment is responsibility of all involved


in the execution of work. Following are basic guidelines

MATERIALS, TOOLS & EQUIPMENT


 Measuring Tape
 Auto Level
 Line dori.
 Soiling/Metalling Material.
 Plate Compactor 1 to 2 Ton capacity.
 Vibro Roller 8 to 10 Ton capacity
 Walk Behind Roller 3 Ton capacity.
 Backhoe Loader
 Tipper Trucks
 Water Tanker
 Sodium Hypochloride liquid diluted with water(1:100 proportion) with spraying arrangement
 All PPEs like face masks, hand-gloves etc. as per guidelines for works in post Covid 19 environment

PREPARATORY WORK
 All intimations and work permits to start work at various places shall be given in electronic media to
consultant/ client’s representative
 Ensure disinfection of equipment to be used for work, with sanitizer at least half an hour before use.
 Engineers, Supervisors & workmen involved in activity shall were all PPEs like face-mask. Social distancing
shall strictly be followed by all during works.
 Marking at workplaces for stationary workmen in order to maintain social distancing and also for moving
workmen when they will be settled at places of work shall be ensured.
 Workplaces shall be disinfected by spraying sanitizer before starting the work, suitably.
 Workers involved in handling materials with multiple contacts, shall were the hand-gloves
 The bed on which rubble soling is to be laid shall be cleared of all loose materials, leveled, watered
ad compacted and got approved by the Engineer-in-charge before laying rubble soling. Cable or
pipe trenches if shown in the drawing and as required by the Engineer-in-charge shall be got done
before the soling is started.

 Before start of soling work ensure anti termite treatment (where applicable) is completed

 Over the prepared surface, the stone shall be set as closely as possible and well packed and firmly
set. The stones shall be of full height and shall be laid so as to have their bases of the largest area
resting on the sub-grade. Soling shall be laid in one layer of 230mm or 150mm depth or specified
thickness of soling with a tolerance of 25mm
 After packing the stones properly in position, the interstices between them shall be carefully
filled with quarry spoils or stone chips of larger size possible to obtain a bard, compact surface.
Spreading of loose spoils or stone chips is prohibited.
 The entire surface shall be examined for any protrusions and the same shall be knocked off by a
hammer and all interstices shall be filled with approved murrum. Excess murrum if any over the
surfaces shall be removed.
 The surfaces shall then be watered and consolidated with mechanical or sufficiently heavy
wooden tampers and log-rammers as approved by the Engineer. After compaction, the Engineer-
in-charge to give the required slope or level and dense sub-base and the surface shall present
clean look
 .Adequate care shall be taken by the contractor while laying and compacting the rubble soling to
see that concrete surfaces in contact with soling are not damaged.
 Ensure wet and dry compaction by rolling with 8 to 10 tone mechanical roller. Hand compactor
must be used at the periphery of the building and where compaction by roller cannot be done.
 Check the top level of Soiling, jointly with Client/PMC engineer & record it separately.

SAFETY
 Hazard Identification (JSA) shall be done by Safety engineer in consultation with site construction
manager and accordingly preventive measures to be taken.
 TBT will be conducted prior to start job by ensuring social distancing norms & latest updates will
be announced to reduce anxiety related with COVID-19.
 Use of PPE’s as per COVID-19 guidelines is mandatory.
 Erection of caution sign boards adequate lightening & protective barricades shall be provided for
work location.
 A proper access & egress should be provided at work station.
 All workers must follow standard safe practices during working and should wear safety PPE’s
(safety helmet, safety shoes, safety goggle, Nose mask, ) while working.
 Only inspected equipment and tools shall be used at site.
 Banks / flag man shall be provided during vehicle movement and working area shall be
barricaded.
 Housekeeping shall be carried out frequently so that proper access shall be maintained for labour
& Machinery movement.
 Close watch shall be kept on all the workers to follow all the guidelines to work in post-Covid 19
environment.
