Jaipur Elephant Festival: India

During the month of March, an event that captivates both Indians and
visitors is celebrated in Jaipur: the elephant festival. More than a hundred
ornate and painted pachyderms gather in the capital of Rajasthan to
compete in beauty and style.

The elephant is one of the most important icons of Hinudism, which

according to tradition cannot be used for work, as it would be a sacrilege.
It is represented in most Hindu temples and is the center of attraction during
the elephant festival, which is held annually in Jaipur.

On this day, the elephants march in a multitudinous procession, very

colorful and photogenic, accompanied by dancers and musicians who
perform traditional songs and dances. The riders and companions are
characteristic, with their impeccable red turbans. The sound of the trumpets
(called "bankiya") offers a unique atmosphere.
Elephants, which are always female, walk majesticly, adorned with jewelry,
flowers, palanquins, colorful paintings and fabrics. Not in vain the elephant
has been a symbol of royalty and a very precious asset for the Maharajas.
Sometimes even other animals, such as horses or camels, join the parade.

They also participate in spectacular sports, such as elephant races, polo

matches or even elephant fights, for which they are sometimes dressed in
war, with shells or armor like those they once presented in battles.
During the festival, music, dance and firewors shows are also offered to the
public. When the contest ends, tourists can get on the elephants and the
day of holly is advanced, a party that takes place the day after the fstival
and in which the whole contry is filled with colored pow

The worship of the elephant was consolidated with the creation of

Ganesha, one of the most beloved figures by Hindus, as he is considered
the God of good luck. The story goes that Shiva mistakenly beheaded his
son Ganesha while he was standing guard so that no one would disturb his
mother, Parvati. When he realized his mistake, the father asked a server
to bring him the first animal he could find. When the server arrived with the
head of an elephant, Shiva placed it on Ganesha's shoulders and brought
him back to life. The worship of Ganesha is so important among the faithful
that at the entrances of most houses and Hindu shops you can see his
image, placed next to another of the goddess Laksmi, which symbolizes
economic prosperity.

Several men tried to scare the animal by yelling at it and

throwing objects, but this caused the elephant to exhaust itself
and the man riding it to fall to the ground, suffering some
injuries as a result, however, this helped the man who was
cornered and in danger.
The man managed to escape the elephant
Fortunately the elephant allowed the man who cornered to
escape, however, the animal's tantrum caused chaos and
crowds of people fled the place.
The parade with elephants is common in India, these
animals are trained to withstand crowds and long
parades, the attack of this elephant is still a mystery
because the causes that have made the animal get
out of control are unknown.
