“FREE SOLO” THE MOST THRILLING CLIMBING

Last week the documentary “Free Solo” was in the Top 10 in the United States on
Netflix. For the few who haven't seen it yet, the protagonist of this documentary is
Alex Honnold,he faces his bigger challenge, climbing El Capitán without security. El
Capitan is a mountain with a Vertical wall of about 914m. This adventure has a lot of
complications, emotions and intense moments for Alex.

Visual scenes are something very impressive in the documentary. The use of drones,
first-person cameras, go pros, etc is remarkable; for the filming of this
documentary. The visual scenes created a big impact on the viewers, this
implementation of technology helps viewers to have strong emotions regarding this
experience. Through these scenes we can empathize more with the protagonist, and
we can have the opportunity of feeling similar emotions like the ones Alex has, like
adrenaline, fear, etc.

Furthermore, the soundtrack is another part of the documentary that helps to make a
connection with the feelings of the protagonist. The sound of the hands and feets
climbing the mountain, the climate, the respiration they are an important part for
empathizing with Alex, after watching this documentary, I felt in some way the
emotions that he felt doing this challenge and that was thanks to the visual scenes
and soundtrack.

It is true that the documentary was very short, each chapter was 40 minutes long, but
the documentary only has 5 episodes, so the challenge is very summarized in
comparison with the time that it takes climbing this mountain. The content of the
documentary is interesting but the duration of it doesn´t help the viewers to
understand Alex´s situation.
The character of Alex was safe at all the moments, it is admirable to see a man in
that situation and with that stability. The thing is that if viewers don't understand why
Alex has that security they will not enjoy the documentary.

In conclusion, this documentary does a very hard work trying to explain the process
that this challenge takes to Alex. The visual scenes and the sound track are the most
striking things, by these two things the viewers can put himself in the place of Alex
and empathize with his emotions. On the other hand I have missed more episodes,
maybe talking about why Alex decide to do that changelle or the family situation,
surely the family was impressed with the decision of doing this challenge. Finally I
would like to recommend viewers to give a opportunity to this documentary, is a
documentary that it is going to impact you emotionally and you will learn a lot about
this extreme sport.
