Calatrava NHS School Profile
Calatrava National High School was once one of the eight campuses of Romblon College of
Fisheries & Forestry (RCFF) which was integrated to Romblon State College (RSC) by virtue of Republic
Act (RA) 9721. Originally, RCFF-Calatrava Campus was known as Calatrava Barangay High School and was
established in the site donated by the family of the Late Rustico Fetalino Fanoy way back in the early
80s.
On June 24, 1984 Batas Pambansa 553 was enacted by the Philippine Legislature-the
Batasang Pambansa to convert the SAN ANDRES SCHOOL OF FISHERIES AND FORESTRY in the
municipality of San Andres, Province of Romblon, into a College of Fisheries & Forestry, integrating
Thereto Certain Secondary Schools in the Province & Appropriating Funds Therefor. And one of the
schools integrated in the College of Fisheries & Forestry was the Calatrava Barangay High School
situated at San Roque, Calatrava, Romblon.
Under RA 8760, the General Appropriation Act (GAA) of 2000 Special Provision # 9
applicable to all SUCs, a Memorandum of Agreement was entered into by the SUC President and
Regional Director of DepEd-MIMAROPA to enact the said provision. The Memorandum of Agreement
signed by the DepEd-MIMAROPA Director-Paraluman R. Giron & RSC President, Dr. Idella G. Formilleza
on May 28, 2002 became effective after the Confirmation of both the SUC Governing Body & the DepEd
Secretary as provided in the Memorandum of Agreement. Further, said MOA required the signing of
“Deed of Transfer Without Cost” of parties involved, the RSC & DepEd. Thus, “Deed of Transfer Without
Cost” was signed on June 10, 2005 at San, Andres, Romblon.
With the increased school population, additional teacher-items were provided by Schools
Division Office-Romblon. Likewise, school-buildings particularly from the Secondary Education
Development & Improvement Project (SEDIP) from year 2004-2009 were constructed in the more or less
5,000 square meter hilly portion of the school site from the original lot donated by the Fanoys.
Currently, the school is under the leadership of a School Principal with 41 Junior High
School Teachers, 19 Senior High School Teachers & 5-Non-Teaching Personnel & 2-Job Orders. These
cater to the needs of almost 1,300 learners from various barangays of Calatrava and nearby
municipalities of San Andres & San Agustin. These learners were either enrolled in the Junior High
School & Junior High School and in the Open High School Program (OHSP) offered by the school.
