POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IMPACT OF USING

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AMONG THE

FILIPINO NETIZENS
BY: Christian A. Viñas

Discussions on how AI will affect people have been going on

for a while. While AI has made our lives more easy by automating
many tedious chores, there are worries about its potential
downsides. In this essay, we'll look at how AI impacts human
people negatively and how it interferes with our daily life.

1. Job Displacement
One of the most significant impacts of AI on human beings is job
displacement. As AI technology advances, it is becoming
increasingly capable of replacing human labor in many
industries. For example, self-driving cars could potentially
replace human drivers in the transportation industry, and robots
could replace humans in manufacturing jobs. This displacement of
jobs can lead to financial instability for many individuals and
could have a negative impact on the economy.

2. Loss of Human Interaction

The decline in interpersonal interaction is another adverse
effect of AI on people. We may rely on AI as it grows more
pervasive in our lives, which might cause a decline in face-to-
face encounters as we become more dependent on it for
communication and companionship. Feelings of loneliness and
isolation may result from the lack of social engagement.
3. Privacy Concerns
Concerns concerning privacy have been brought up by AI. AI
algorithms frequently rely on data collecting, which puts
people's privacy at risk. For instance, personal information
gathered by AI-powered gadgets like home assistants and
wearables may be used for targeted advertising or, worse still,
might enter into the wrong hands and be misused.

4. Bias and Discrimination

The data that AI systems are taught on determines how objective
they are. This indicates that an AI system will be biased if the
data used to train it is skewed. An AI system, for instance,
would reflect bias in its judgments if it is trained on data
that contains racial or gender bias. This could result in
prejudice against particular people or groups.

5. Dependence on AI
The possibility for reliance is another detrimental effect of AI
on people. We could rely on AI for decision-making and problem-
solving as technology gets more ingrained in our daily lives,
which could result in a decline in critical thinking abilities.
Furthermore, if the AI system were to malfunction, humans might
not have the ability to figure out solutions on our own.

In conclusion, while AI has the potential to make our lives

easier, there are concerns about its negative impact on our
lives. Job displacement, loss of human interaction, privacy
concerns, bias and discrimination, and dependence on AI are all
potential negative impacts of AI on human beings. It is
important to consider these impacts as we continue to integrate
AI into our lives.
