"The Truman Show" is an interesting film about Truman Burbank, a guy who is

clueless about his whole existence on a reality television program. As he learns the truth,
he fights back against the confines of his world and attempts to leave. This film takes
place in Seahaven, a set inside an enormous dome populated by crew members and
actors. In my opinion, this film accurately represents the dangers of a society where
media and entertainment have full control over everything. I feel that this film has greatly
represented our society when it comes to entertainment and media. Because when it
comes to building a fantasy, we’d go above and beyond as a society to maintain that
fantasy, even if it meant we had to destroy it.

The film greatly explores manipulation, as it is the very foundation of the plot. But I believe that
these three characters are also a crucial part of the plot of the film. If it weren't Lauren Garland,
who became Truman's reason to fight back against Christof's manipulation, Christof showed the
power of the media and its ability to shape our understanding of reality. Marlon also played a big
part in the film's plot because, in the film, whenever Truman would start questioning his life,
Marlon would simply tamper with Truman's understanding of reality. With all these characters
playing a big part in the movie, Seahaven also played an important part because, while
Seahaven is not meant to be a realistic representation of a real town, it serves an important
symbolic role in the ways in which we construct our own perceptions of the world. I feel that
Christof's motivation to create the Truman Show was because he wanted to create a world of
only perfection with Truman as the star. After all, Christof chose him because he knew Truman's
potential. That's why the viewers were interested because, to them, Truman was the
embodiment of absolute perfection.

If I were in Truman's situation, I would have done the same. Because discovering that my whole
existence was a lie would be enough of a reason for me to find out my true purpose. The
message of the film would be how much power the media holds to the point where it can bend
our perceptions of what is real and what is not. And how easily we can be misled by what we
see and hear.
