Avoid using extension cords as permanent wiring
solutions.
Use the right wattage for light fixtures and lamps.
Don't overload outlets and power strips.
Replace any frayed or damaged cords.
Safety Devices
Install smoke detectors in every room and make
sure they are functioning properly.
Install ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) in
bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor areas.
Use surge protectors to protect
electronics from power surges.
Keep a fire extinguisher nearby in case
of emergency.
