What is OBE?
OBE stands for Outcome-Based Education. It is an educational approach that places emphasis on
clearly articulated learning outcomes. In OBE, the focus is on what students are expected to know
and be able to do by the end of a course or program. OBE emphasizes the importance of measurable
and observable learning outcomes, authentic assessment, and a student-centered approach to
learning. The ultimate goal of OBE is to prepare students for success in the real world by providing
them with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes they need to thrive in their lives and careers.
Four Principles of OBE
1. CLARITY OF FOCUS - Have a clear focus on the topic being taught and align with
performance standards.
2. DESIGNING BACKWARD - Start with desired learning outcomes and design backwards
to develop a learning program.
3. EXPANDED OPPORTUNITY - Use a variety of learning strategies and approaches to
support the learning program.
4. HIGH EXPECTATION - Set high expectations and provide support to meet them,
including remediation and enrichment opportunities.
