Chapter 1
Introduction

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

During the pandemic, the employees and other

companies chose to just work from home because the virus is
spreading fast and just use an online method which is by a
computer. ICT has been a great help for them in continuing their
work.
Some people have been curious about creating or making
programs so ICT has been one of their choices in studying. It
made them curious and excited about knowing how to make a
program. More importantly, Programming language is one of the
important lessons to learn in ICT.
Programming language is a language that has a big help
or contribution in terms of making/writing computer programs. It
involves a computer doing some calculations or so called
algorithms. It is a computer language used to develop software
programs, scripts, or other sets of instructions for computers to
execute.
In this study, the researchers focused on helping the
future researchers/ students in realizing the importance of the
Programming language in terms of learning and making a
program.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The major goal of this research is to identify the impact and

benefits of the student learning a programming language. In addition
to how ICT students will benefit developing computer laboratory. The
following questions must addressed :

● What are the benefits of learning Programming language

towards computer laboratory performance of ICT
students?
● What are the help that programming languages provide
when developing a program?
● How do students perform in a computer laboratory if they
are literate in the programming language?
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Figure 1. Conceptual framework

Figure 1 shows the benefits of learning on a student's

performance and one of them is Improving problem-solving skills.
These improving problem solving skills also help to develop more skills
in a person. One of ICT student’s major benefits is to gain more
knowledge over coding and programming. Individual students have to
gain knowledge over coding , improving problem solving is to meet
their expectation to solve a problem such as decode , fixing errors and
so on. This has a positive impact on students to improve their ability to
solve any problem related to the computer laboratory.

Under improving problem solving skills, there is creativity.

Creativity is one of the more developed skills that students need. In
ICT student’s this is one of their benefits , In sense creativity enables
them to formulate their thoughts and ideas in their own way and own
style. At the same time , it is a quality that future students of ICT
should improve to sustain the developing creativity. Developing
creativity is important , this way to use their technical skills and their
creative thinking.

At the bottom of the concept map, you will see the critical
thinking. We , the researcher , have to include this one on the concept
map because being a programmer this will benefit the students to face
the question or problem. Meaning when faced with a question or
problem , you spend time analyzing it and considering a range of
possible approaches to it before acting or making a decision. Critical
thinking on programming language will benefit ICT students , they
spend time analyzing the errors , and fixing things.

SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

Many individual students will benefit from this research study,

particularly those ICT students. This research study ought to
determine the benefits of ICT students to learning programming. The
people listed below are those who stand to gain from the study's
findings.

Students. This study will be helpful to the students to

understand the importance of programming language and also
knowing the benefits.
Teachers. This study is a notice for them to know what lesson
they should focus on when teaching the ICT students.
School Administrator. This study can be their reference for
further studies about this topic.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The primary goal of this study is to determine the benefits of
programming languages. This research will last about 6 months and
will include both the distribution of survey forms to respondents and
the statistical tests and interpretation of the data gathered. This study
only focuses on students who will benefit from a computer laboratory.
This study also includes information about the benefits of
programming languages such as problem-solving, critical thinking and
so on. This research study will not cover other problems that are
necessarily connected to the study. Each of the respondents is given
the same questionnaires to answer the result of this study will be
applicable only to the respondents of this study and will not be used as
a measure to the benefits of programming language towards computer
laboratory who do not belong to the population of this study.

This part of the research paper will discuss all terminologies used by
researchers while conducting their study.
