Narrative Report
SY 2022-2023

In the celebration of the 28th Kalinga Founding Anniversary and the 4th Bodong Festival, the province of
Kalinga launched the first ever Kalinga Bodong Student Summit at the Kalinga Sports Complex
conducted by Honorable Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang as the Chairman together with Dr.
Eduardo T. Bagtang, the Co-Chairman, with a theme, “BODONG DA UMMUNUNA, LUMIN-AWAAN
DA GINAKKAAT DE UTUP DE PADDA”, [this student bodong summit defines who an iKalinga is and
that for student to see, witness, and understand what Bodong is and inculcate the indigenous cultural
practices in their hearts and mind.
According to Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, [President of Kalinga State University] from his welcome address,
he said that we are making history since this is the first student bodong summit being conducted in the
province where the six (6) Higher Education Institutions (HEI) here in Kalinga were able to make it
stand. He also said that Summit was made through Provincial Order 2016-29, the reason for the
province to celebrate bodong festival and so he moved for a resolution through the provincial IPMR Hon.
Michael Sugguiyao to be acted by the Sanggunian Panlalawigan, to declare February 8 as the Official
Kalinga Bodong Student Summit to be celebrated every year.
The activity was participated by the six Higher Education Institution including Saint Louis College of
Bulanao, Kalinga State University, Saint Tonis College Inc, KCST, and ISAP who portrayed the process
of Bodong. Salidummay and Uggayam competition.
The different stages and process of the Bodong which are ‘Allasiw’ and ‘Sipat’[ where the
Angkamalong-ag (Elders) and papangat ( headmen) of both tribes , having decided to forge the bodong
and it involves the exchange of the spear and bolos], that is being perform by Saint Tonis College Inc
(STCI), followed by the ‘Sunglip’[a meeting where the elders of both tribes meet to start the talks towards
attaining peace pact] and ‘Kulliti’[ the designated person will travel to the opposite community to contact
and invite them to their own village] that is being perform by the Kalinga State University ( KSU). The
‘Pagta [by laws and policies that will be agreed upon by both tribes and thereby unite them both] the most
important stages of bodong system, that performed by the Saint Louis College of Bulanao (SLCB) and
lastly the ‘Inum/Inom’ [setting where  the bodong holder of both tribes will be the first to drink the rice
wine poured on a wooden bowl. After which, both members of the tribe will have a taste of the wine] and
‘Lilay’[ the guest tribes return to their respective homes, and the host village gather all their gifts to
present to their kabodong], that is being performed by the Kalinga College of Science and Technology
(KCST) and the International School of Asia Pacific (ISAP).
Present during the activity were Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, KSU president, Dr. Eduardo T.
Bagtang, former Tinglayan Mayor, Johnny Maymaya [who is the representative of Honorable Governor
James Edubba], IPMR Vicente Gomowang, Fernando Cosidon, Romulo Galnawan from DepEd, Placido
Alsiyang Jr [who explained the difference between ‘Allasiw’ and ‘Sipat] ,other tribal leaders, faculty and
students.
