traditions and used traditions as a vehicle for transmitting the most modern and contemporary
messages, which means intervening in traditions creatively”
With this aim to access and recreate the traditions creatively and to preserve our folk Art theatre
and culture; Vibhaav - The Catalyst Theatre Group is born. VIBHAAV means in Natyashastra
Vibhava which literally means the determinant, the cause or the 'karana’. Vibhaav is both
stimulating and exciting which supports the main stimulating factors in evoking an emotion.

So likewise Vibhaav, Vibhaav theatre is formed to act as a catalyst and stimulant, to bring about a
reverberating change in individual beings and in the society. Like when a catalyst is added to a
reaction, it increases the rate of a reaction. Catalysts typically speed up a reaction by reducing the
activation energy or changing the reaction mechanism. Likewise our group aims to speed up the
reaction to annihilate the social evils existing in the society and increase the educational socio-
moral, ethical behaviour and create a creative productive environment. As Theatre is a
collaborative art , Vibhaav believes in collaborative, collective and ensemble work of artists with a
focus on individual growth of its participants.
Our group is a collaborative effort of Young Theatre Research scholars , students , workers and
teachers who wants to create something of the stature of avant-garde , who wants to experiment ,
wants to interpret and research our existing theatre scenario and our folk art forms. It wants to
make and create a fusion which fantastically combines the modern and the traditional sensibilities
.To make an individual able to think and to secure an innate curiosity and enhance their urge to
always learn and create new art forms keeping in mind the surpassing qualities of traditions.
Vibhaav believes in the process and the journey instead of the product in terms of play-making . It
aims to provide personal individual growth towards being a good human and to create sensitive
people in the society who are aware of their senses. A good sensitive individual can create a better
society that aims to work in accordance with the elements of the refinement of culture
