Topic: The role of non-governmental organizations in improving the lives of people living in
slums.

Preambulatory clauses:  

Alarmed by the fact that one in eight people live in slums today, which equates to an average
of one billion people living in slum conditions
Bearing in mind many of these slums consist of high unemployment and poverty rates due to
stigmatization and discrimination against these individuals

Recognising the cause of slum formation is the rise in the cost of living in cities as a by product
of rapid urbanization

Operative clauses:
1. Strongly urges nations to donate towards NGOs such as UN-WATER to contribute in creating
a clean water supply for slum dwellers in means such as but not limited to:
a. Implementing rainwater harvesting systems to collect and store rainwater for drinking
or recharging underground aquifers. 
i. Building wells to extract groundwater from underground aquifers.
ii. Provide home water-treatment capability through the use of filters, solar disinfection,
or flocculants, to make drinking water safe.
iii. Promoting low-cost solutions, such as chlorine tablets or plastic bottles that can be
exposed to sunlight, to improve water quality
b. Putting into place a waste stabilization pond to maintain the water quality in the
community.
i. Treat wastewater which can be used for irrigation and agriculture to act as fertilizers
ii. Store treated water in a natural reservoir for be used by the dweller  

2. Encouraging education opportunities that can be funded by the UN educational initiatives

such as UNESCO alongside other prominent nations;

a. This can be done firstly through different programs,

 I.  Such as the SCALE-UP which provides opportunities to have night classes in
designated epicenters in these slums

ii. Classes can educate the slum dwellers on improving their health services through
proper education in waste management and proper sanitation measures

b.  These education services can provide training in the production of saleable items such
as,

I. embroidery and clothing. Which Tourists often buy therefore, this would allow the
children to gain the ability to grow in their education and gain economic
empowerment. 

ii. This has proven effective as seen in the improvement of the livelihoods of over 15,000
children in a Yerwada slum with economic empowerment and education.

3. Strongly recommends improving transport networks as this could enhance and improve the
daily living condition of slum dwellers, This will be done through means such as but not limited
to,

a.    Making  public transportation more affordable to low income users such as slums,

i.   With the help of the government, we should make public transportation more
affordable as slums can transport affordably which will reduce the over crowdedness
which is seen in slums, such as buses, trains…etc

ii. Create a non-profitable business with the help of the government which provides a
bus fitting over 25 people specifically for slums as a public transportation, however the
bus will not drop off all 25 at the same spot, or else the over crowdedness will not
improve, this will help as it will decrease overpopulation in slums, and give slums more
opportunities to transport safely, 

b. Provide public transportation road priority and provide more public transportation not
just for slums, but this is also good for our country’s environment,

i. This can be accomplished by adding more bus lanes, commonly referred to as "queue
jump" lanes. These lanes can increase the dependability and safety of buses since they
are set apart from the rest of the road, typically by a thick white line.

ii. This will be accomplished with the help of the government, as we need the
government’s permission to install a queue jump lane, however many countries whose
governments cannot fund for this bus, then in that case, we will attempt to create a
fundraiser to raise enough money.
4. Calls for NGOs to break down slums and install better infrastructure in these areas and open
to online donations to fund these projects,
a. These are the Things NGOs can install in order to allow better infrastructure; 
i. Clean sewage,
            ii.     Electricity,
            iii.   Running water,
            iv.  New roads,

b. This will be done through means of but limited to by spreading awareness through
social media about the issue thus allowing more people to donate,
i. There will be advertisements on these social media platforms allowing a larger spread
of awareness,
ii. The accounts will try to gain more followings to spread more awareness
iii. They can also try to reach out to famous influencers to spread awareness about the
issue,
            iv.   Some of the platforms that can be used are
             1. Instagram
             2. TikTok
             3. GoFundMe
             4. Facebook
              5. YouTube

5. Calls for non  governmental  organizations to raise money and spread awareness on the topic
of health insurance for those living in slums, and making sure that those who  cannot afford
health insurance are provided with  it through  funds from the NGO or from donations,

a. Providing families with paid for health insurance in order to make sure that health care
is available to those who cannot afford it,
i.  Speaking to top health insurance organizations about this issue and making deals with
them in order to help reduce health issues and make sure health is ensured for them,   

                     ii. Examples of top health insurance companies in the world,

                1. UnitedHealth Group
                2. Anthem
                3. Humana and Health Service Corp.
   
  b. raising money to  help provide money to pay for the health insurance of those who   cannot
afford it and those living in slums,  
I. raising  awareness  on social media sites such as but not limited to, 
Instagram 
Youtube
Facebook
Twitter 

II. hanging billboards and posters globally, in areas where slums are common, and in  highly
populated areas to increase donations, 
III. opening online donations on websites such as but not limited to, 
Gofundme.com
Donorbox.com
crowdfunder.com

6. residents' contributions to the construction of slum residents' houses and the creation of
family-friendly spaces

a. Having a safe place to live in will enable families, especially those with children, to have
a nice existence with a real roof over their heads because this will encourage education
to those who have never been taught before and create new generations.
i. Provide shelter homes for those less privileged
ii. Build schools near slum resistances, public free schools, and free
transportation.

b. Citizens' donations help establish a warm community inside the nation and
motivate individuals to assist the less fortunate, resulting in lower levels of
inequality and giving the people a sense of belonging.

c. Allowing schools to send kids on visits to slums and offer them some items, such
as clothing, will help individuals in slums feel loved by their country. Schools are
also encouraging children at a young age to get used to giving less fortunate
people part of their stuff.

Convincing speech: 

The delegate of France urges all delegates in the house to vote for this resolution, as the
delegate believes that this is the most economically suitable resolution for all parties involved,
this resolution includes all problems that people living in slums face in a daily basis, and
provides suitable and logical solutions for them. This is why the delegate believes that this
resolution is the most reasonable resolution on the topic of NGO’s and slums.
