Bernat Blanket Afghan Pattern, Mint Choco Chip Blanket

This Bernat Blanket Afghan pattern is not just quick but also easy enough for beginners. The stitch pattern is an easy
combination of half double crochet and chains.

The blanket works up in just about 4 hours and will make a great gift that you can whip up when you don’t have much
time on your hands.

I used 3 colors that can suit a boy or a girl. You can combine any 3 colors or change colors every row. There are so
many ways to customize this blanket and make it your own.

The stitch pattern looks like the bean stitch to me but it is a very simple stitch made from basic stitches. The nature of
the yarn makes it look really unique.

Bernat Blanket Afghan Pattern

Materials

1. Super Chunky (size 6)yarn. Bernat Blanket yarn in color Seafoam and Dark gray, and Bernat Baby Blanket in color
White.

2. An N/P (10mm) hook.

3. Tapestry needle with a big eye to weave in the ends.

Finished Size
36 inches wide and 40 inches long. The size can easily be adjusted.

Yardage
It took me one skein Bernat Blanket yarn in each of the three colors. It took me around 110 yards of gray, 170 yards of
white and 190 yards of the mint color.

 Crochet Pattern
Note: For the sake of convenience we will call the colors mint, dark gray/brown and white.

With mint color yarn, chain 70. You can chain any multiple of 4+6 to start.

Row 1: (2hdc, ch 2, hdc)in 4th ch from hook, *[sk next 3 chs, (2hdc, ch 2, hdc)in next ch], repeat from * to last 2 chs,
sk next ch, 1 hdc in last ch, turn.————17 repeats

Row 2: Ch 2( counts as a hdc here and throughout), (2hdc, ch2, hdc) in each ch-2 space across, sk the next 2 sts, 1 hdc
on top of beg ch-2, turn.——-17 Repeats

Note: To join the next color at the end of a row, start working your last hdc as usual, and when you have 3 loops left
on your hook, YO and pull through the new color. Start the next row by making the beginning ch in the new color
joined.

Row 3-5: Continue to repeat Row 2 in color mint. Join white at the end of Row 5 while working the last hdc of the
row. Fasten off mint color yarn.

Row 6-10: Repeat Row 2 in color white. Join gray color yarn at the end of Row 10 while working the last hdc of the
row. Fasten off white color yarn.

Row 11-15: Repeat Row 2 in the color gray. Join mint color yarn at the end of Row 15 while working the last hdc of
the row. Fasten off gray color yarn.

Row 16-20: Repeat Row 2 in color mint. Join white color yarn at the end of Row 20 while working the last hdc of the
row. Fasten off mint color yarn.

Row 21-25: Repeat Row 2 in color white. Join gray color yarn at the end of Row 10 while working the last hdc of the
row. Fasten off white color yarn.

Row 26-30: Repeat Row 2 in the color gray. Join mint color yarn at the end of Row 30 while working the last hdc of
the row. Fasten off gray color yarn.

Row 31-35: Repeat Row 2 in color mint. Join white color yarn at the end of Row 35 while working the last hdc of the
row. Fasten off mint color yarn.

Border for your Crochet Blanket

Note: When you are working your first round across the row ends, take care to work over the yarn tails to hide them.
Work over the tails only if the tail is white, the color of the border, or matches the color of the stripe. If not, leave
them to weave in later.

Round 1: Ch 1 at the corner with the white color yarn joined, and turn to work along the last row you just completed
in mint color. 1 sc in the first hdc, *(2 sc in next ch-2 space, sk next st, 1 sc in next), repeat from * until you work 2 sc
in the last ch-2 space, sk next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc on top of beg ch, 8 sc across the end of the first mint stripe, 8 sc
across each stripe until you have one stripe left, 9 sc across the last stripe to reach the corner, 2 more sc in the same
corner.

Continue to work along the foundation chain side (see pic 1 above), *(2 sc in the big space under the 3 chains, 1 sc in
the small space under each repeat), repeat from * to next corner, 3 sc in corner.

Work 8 sc across first stripe end, 8 sc across each stripe across, after working 8 sc along the last stripe, 2 sc in the
corner, sl st to first sc. Do not turn.

Round 2: Ch 1, *(1 sc in BLO of next st and each st across to the next corner, 2 sc in BLO of the corner st, 2 sc in
BLO of next st), repeat from * and once you have worked all around the blanket and reached back the corner where
you started the round, 2 sc in BLO of the corner st, 2 sc in BLO of next st, sl st to first sc, fasten off.
Finishing the Blanket
Weave in any tails left.
