A guide to booking an IELTS Test

This is a guide to help parents and guardians to register their children for an IELTS Test with the
British Council. Our policy on child protection states that we cannot accept registrations from people
under the age of 18 years old.

When someone under the age of 18 years old attempts to register for an IELTS Test with the British
Council, they’ll be asked to provide an email address for a parent or guardian to complete their
registration. The registration site is only available in English.

Step 1:

As a parent/guardian you will receive an email from the British Council to create an account. If you do not see
the email, please check your junk mail folder. The email should look like the image below.

Please read the email and


click ‘Login’.

Step 2:

Select the IELTS module


you would like your child to
sit for.

Step 3:

Choose the country


where you would like
your child to sit the
Test from the drop
down menu.

Does your child require any special arrangements on the Test date?
 Select yes or no.
 If you would like to know more, please click on ‘Read about how we can help you to learn
more about what we can offer for your special needs’.

Step 4:

Select the month you


would like your child
to sit for the IELTS
Test.

Step 5:
Next click on choose location to select where in the country you would like them to take the Test.

Click on the drop down
menu and scroll down to
find the location.

Click on the preferred


location.

Then click ‘Search for


Tests’.

Note: You can go back and change your country or dates if you are not happy with what you see.
Just click on ‘Change Country or Dates’.

Step 6:

A popup window will display the


test dates available, you can either
select by date or location.

Click on the Test date which is best for your child. A pop up window will
then display the exact venue where the test will take place (this may not
be applicable to all countries).

If you are happy with your


selection, click on ‘Book test’.

Step 7:

You should now have a screen of


the Test date along with the
venue.

It confirms the Test module


selected, the fee for the Test, and
the Test date and times.

Click on ‘choose
speaking test’

Step 8:

You should now get a pop up


window which displays the
available Speaking Test times.

Select the most suitable


Speaking Test time for your child
using the drop down bar.

Then click ‘Continue booking’.

Note: You can go back and


change the date of the Written
Test if you are not happy with the
one selected. To do so click on
‘Change date of Written Test’

Step 9:

At this stage you are required to log into your personal account.

If you do not have an account, you have to set one up, so you have access to the information about your
child’s Testing, including accessing their results.

If you have already


registered, enter your
email and password.

If you are not already registered, click


on ‘I’m not registered’

Note: if you are already registered and know your password, please skip to Step 11.

To set up an account, please enter your own details.

Once you log into the portal, you will be able to enter your child’s details.

Step 10:

You can now log into your


account to continue the
registration.

Enter your email address


and password. If you have
forgotten your password
click ‘I forgot my password’.

If you have forgotten your


password, enter your email
address.

An email will be sent to you


(as below). In the email,
click on ‘Reset Password’.

You will now be prompted to
reset your password.

Step 11:

Now you have logged


into the portal, you will
notice that a timer has
started. We hold the
selected Test booking for
25 minutes to enable you
to complete the
transaction. After that
time it will be released to
other test takers.

Select ‘My Child’ to register


them for the Test.

Step 12:

Enter your child’s details as


requested.

Step 13:

Provide permission for your


child to leave the Test by
themselves or specify who
will pick them up.

If you have chosen for


someone to pick them up,
enter their details as
requested.

You will be asked to
confirm that this person is
authorised to pick them up
and are over 14 years old.

Step 14:

Next, please enter the


address details of your child.

Then click on ‘Add ID’.

Step 15:

Please enter their ID details.

Then click on ‘Add


additional details’.

Step 16:

Select their gender.

Please enter additional


information about
nationality and
education.

Then click ‘Add


additional information’.

Step 18:

Please enter additional


information about
occupation.

Step 19:

Let us know why your


child is taking IELTS.

Then click ‘Add


receiving organisation’.

Step 20:

This is an optional step.


You are able to choose
receiving organisations
at a later date if you
prefer.

Make your choice and


then click ‘Review my
application’.

Review the details of


your booking to check
that the information is
correct.

If the information is correct,


read and agree to the IELTS
terms and conditions and
cancellation policy, and then
click ‘Payment’.

Step 22:

The fee for the Test will


now be displayed.

Step 23:

Select who you would


like the invoice sent to
and enter their details.

Select your method


of payment.

If you select pay online,


you’ll be taken to a secure
payment site.

Fill in your credit card


details and click on ‘pay’.

Alternatively, you can select pay
another way.

You can arrange to pay by bank


transfer.

Note: on the payslip ensure you


include the following information:

 Full name of the candidate


 Exams date
 IELTS reference number.

Once the payment has been received by either online payment or bank transfer, you will receive an email
confirmation of your child’s registration for IELTS.
