Note: The following guideline was endorsed by the University Senate (refer: Senate Meeting No. 7 on 1/8/2018) and is meant as a guide to estimate the detail student learning time based on various
guided, self learning and assessment activities. The actual student learning time may vary slightly from the guide.
Operational Definition:
1. Guided Learning is structured learning with a set of outcomes and delivery method set by an instructor. Activities considered in Guided Learning includes a. face to face activities such
as Lecture, Tutorial and Practical session, b. non-face to face activities such as online learning, and c. blended and others such as project based learning, discovery learning, practicum,
industrial training and others.
2. Self learning or Independant Learning is non structured learning but related to the outcomes, delivery and assessment of a course, voluntarily conducted by student for preparation of the guided
learning activities, revision of past lesson and for other purposes.
General Guidelines
1. 1 credit hour is equivalent to 40 hours of learning activities including self learning and assessment.
2. 50% - 80% Effective Learning Time is considered in Work Based Learning (WBL) activities including theory, industrial guidance and assessment.
E.g. 80h (or 2 weeks) activities for Industrial Training is equivalent to 1 credit because 50%X80h = 40h.
E.g. 50h for Industrial Mode courses' activities is equivalent to 1 credit because 80%X50h = 40h.

Note: PBL sessions. 8. Manually adjust the detail allocated time to match closely the SLT Credit
Assignment related to PBL. Equivalent (SLTCE) and the Course Credit (CC). The actual hours for any of the
Back to Content activities may be varied from the guideline in order to match SLTCE and CC.
