النتائج:
أظهرت جميع الضمادات فعالية في القضاء على E. faecalisوكان أفضها RG-Dentو CHXثم
Ca(OH)2

Abstract
Abstract:
The study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of three intracanal medicaments
(RG-Dent, calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 and chlorhexidine (CHX) on Enterococcus Faecalis
(E. faecalis).
Materials and Methods: The study samples consisted of 60 single rooted-single canaled
human teeth. The crowns were sectioned and the root lengths were cut and standardized to 16
mm. and the root canals were prepared using the rotary with 5.25% NaOCl irrigation. After
contaminating the canals were sterilized then contaminated with E. faecalis. the samples were
divided into three main groups (n = 20) and each main group was divided into two subgroups
(n = 10). Bacterial sample were taken from each canal before applying the dressing using a
sterile paper point, then each bacterial sample was cultured in Petri dishes and the number of
colony-forming units (CFU) in each dish was counted. Ca(OH)2 was placed in the canals of
the first main group, while the CHX was placed in the canals of the second main group and
RG-Dent in third main group. The samples were placed in the incubator for 2 days for the first
subgroups and for 7 days for the second subgroups, then the bacterial sample were taken from
each canal and the number of bacterial colonies was counted after applying the dressing. The
data were statistically analyzed after converting them to logarithmic numbers using
T-Test (a=0.05)
Results:
All medicaments have been shown to be effective in eliminating E. faecalis.
There was statistically significant difference in the effectiveness between RG-Gent and
Ca(OH)2 and between CHX and Ca(OH)2 after using them for 2 days and 7 days, as
RG-Dent and CHX outperformed Ca(OH)2 in eliminating E. faecalis.
The results showed that there was no effect for the duration of application of the
dressing on its effectiveness.
Conclusions: RG-Dent and CHX showed better efficacy than Ca(OH)2 in eliminating
E. faecalis therefore, it is preferred to be used in cases of necrotic pulp.
