Some Kids, Big Business

Dear Brighton High Administration,

I want to thank you for this wonderful school year and point out one of the things that I

think would be a good idea to change or update. Throughout the year, I have conducted small

surveys and interviews among friends, family, and classmates. These surveys have helped in

gathering the information for this project. Throughout the school year, I was constantly running

into kids that wanted to start businesses. The only problem was, the class didn’t carry over and

none of them knew about the class. This is something that I believe should be discussed. In an

interview with Sam Bartunek, she states, “I would consider taking a business class because I’d

never know if I need that skill until later in life.”. Most other students interviewed felt the same

way. In the same interview, Sam says, “It would be a good learning experience for any teen

because it’s always good to have another skill.”. Throughout my life, I have always been

interested in business and have always wanted to get other kids involved with it as well. Because

of my interest in business, I want to get the class as much recognition or representation as

possible. In order to do this, we must get a lot of people involved. This includes the FBLA, the

staff, and any other student and educational body that is willing to help. Many students have

asked and are looking for a class for them to be able to start a business. In order for them to find

the class, spread the word about the class. Allow people to experience it before actually getting

into the class. Students always need an incentive or something that they can look at or experience

before they get interested in doing something. In the interview with Sam, she states, “I think that

most students would be interested in it if they saw that they could be on their own and be able to

make their own money without working a regular job.” Anyone and everyone is able to have a

business idea, just some need a little motivation or inspiration. That’s what the class is for.
