If a cadet encounters a fire emergency on board, the following steps should be taken

Sound the alarm: Alert others on board by sounding the fire alarm. This will help
notify the crew and passengers of the fire and initiate the response plan.
Assess the situation: The cadet should assess the situation and determine the
location and severity of the fire. If possible, try to determine the source of the fire and
if it is safe to attempt to extinguish it.
Notify the bridge: The cadet should inform the bridge of the fire and provide details
of its location, severity, and potential risks. This will help the captain and crew
respond effectively and initiate any necessary emergency procedures.
Use firefighting equipment: If it is safe to do so, the cadet should use firefighting
equipment, such as fire extinguishers or hoses, to try to extinguish the fire. The
cadet should be familiar with the type of extinguisher or hose to use for the specific
type of fire and follow established procedures for using the equipment.
Evacuate if necessary: If the fire cannot be extinguished or is too severe, the
cadet should evacuate the area and notify others on board to evacuate as well.
Follow established procedures for evacuation, including using designated escape
routes, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and providing assistance
to those who need it.
Follow established emergency procedures: The cadet should follow established
emergency procedures for responding to fires on board. This may include activating
the vessel's firefighting systems, shutting down equipment or systems that may
contribute to the fire, and initiating communication with emergency services.
The cadet should provide assistance to others on board as needed, such as
helping with evacuation or providing first aid to those who may be injured.
