BHOPAL: In a setback to the cheetah reintroduction project, Daksha, a female cheetah brought from

South Africa, died in a confrontation with two male cheetahs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh's
Sheopur district. This is the third cheetah death in Kuno in the last one-and-a-half months. The two male
cheetahs involved in the fight were identified as Vayu and Agni, part of the "Phinda Adult Male
Coalition", also known as the White Walkers.

Their violent interaction with Daksha during courtship/mating attempts led to her death, a government
statement said. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning and the cheetah monitoring team at Kuno
found Daksha fatally injured around 10.45am.

Despite receiving medical treatment from veterinarians, Daksha succumbed to injuries two hours later.
According to a government official's statement, Daksha's wounds suggested a violent interaction during
courtship/mating attempts. The official added that such behaviour from male coalition cheetahs
towards females during mating is common, and it is practically impossible for the monitoring team to
intervene.
