Most interesting topics on the Emma book and adaptation comparison:

- Comedy: film can take advantage of this element; book stays more sober. All the
adaptations usually feel romantically built however in this one there’s room for
comedy.

- Characters: there’s a lot of unbearable characters in the book whereas in the film
only appear the important ones and the unbearable characters are turned upside
down so they can be lighter, fresh and funnier

- Love story: In the book the love story bt emma and Knightley is almost existent,
there’s not any focus on them and the last chapters leave a precipitated feeling bt
their relationship

- As the main character: Emma, it is built in a similar way so she can develop a more
mature character as the two stories go on.

Both add different perspectives to the story, On the one hand, movie can bring the
visuals, aesthetic, music, while on the other hand novel provides the original and
extended plot, it feels obviously more complete

Things I enjoyed the most from the Book:

She pulls it all together in a vivid language that is rich, enormously precise and full of
flavor. The novel portraits a unique vision of the Heroine in this literary genre.
She is human, doubts herself, fails and it’s not extremely vulnerable also she stays not
being an example but an empowered female reality.

The differences btw b and films are concentrated in little details (we miss FairFax and
Churchill romance, the weird conversation btw emma and harriet which doesn’t take
place in the book bc harriet never would be mad at emma… and many other aspects in
the original story that might be confusing for the viewer and reader.

To conclude, this book is presented as a huge challenge for the adaptation but
eventually I think it is very well thought and planned so I recommend everybody, if
they have the opportunity, to compare both and analyze them.
