1: PRINTER SERVER

I. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT
Many homes and businesses are using a network printer that can be
accessed by multiple computers through LAN or Ethernet port, and today's latest
by wireless devices with a built-in WIFI card. The print server may be a software,
network device, or computer and it can easily process the print jobs within the
bulk by making a well-organized queue and execute one by one. With a print
server, there will be printing sharing and management of print services, it offers
many advantages to both the end-user and the administrator. A way to avoid
problems with direct IP printer connections in a larger environment. Using a print
server is a solution to a large network queuing system, each user is forced to wait
until the printer is available. It eliminates the bottleneck by queuing each job on
the print server, so freeing the user's computer more quickly.
II. LEARNING SKILLS FROM THE MELCs
Objectives
At the end of the lesson you are expected to:
 Identify the components of Print Services and ways of attaching Printer
Devices;
 Follow the steps of network printer configuration on local computer in
windows 10 and Windows Server;
 Realize the advantages of shared printers in local and large network
setup.
III. ACTIVITIES

Today, you will know about terms related to Print Services and how you may
able to configure a print server in Windows 10 and Windows Server.

Print Services Architecture

1. Print Device – It is an actual hardware that produces hard-copy documents

printed on the paper.

2. Printer – It is a software interface which the computer communicates to print

device.

3. Print Server – It receives print jobs from client computers that are attached locally
or connected to the network. This can be a server or standalone computer.

4. Driver – It converts print jobs generated by an application to an appropriate string

of commands for a particular printer.

5. Print Management - It reduces print administrator tasks like installing printers on

client computers and managing and monitoring printers. Lessen cost and control
printing behaviors like protecting unauthorized document access. It includes
queuing, print tracking, print release, usage report etc.

Methods of Attaching Printer Device

1. Direct Printing is the easiest way of employing a printer device. That a printer is
attached to a Server.

2. Local-attached printer sharing – It is a setup in which the server is directly

attached to the printer device functions as a print server.

3. Network-attached printing: Unlike attaching the printer device with a computer by

USB or other port, Instead, you'll be able to attach a printer device on to a network, a
good example is through WIFI.

4. Network-attached printer sharing: during this method, you assign a computer as a

print server and use it to serve clients means once you install a printer on a
computer(that becomes the print server), you'll share it on the network and configure
it to access the printer directly through TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) port.
When done, you only share the printer for the clients and manage them for
accessing and managing.

Add Wireless Printer

The steps of adding wireless printer are based on the printer manufacturer. In general, however,
detecting modern printers today in your network will automate the installation.

1. In an Epson printer this is often under Setup > Wireless LAN Settings.

2. Select the Wi-Fi name or the home network's SSID, by hovering the mouse over the Wi-Fi icon in
the taskbar. 3. Enter your network password.

Add Shared Printer with Home Group

In some cases, you may have to temporarily connect your printer to your computer via USB to put in
software. But if not, find your printer to automatically add to the Printers & scanners section under
Settings then Devices.

HomeGroup is a windows’ home networking feature that automatically shares printers and certain
files with other computers on your home network. Now, let us set up a HomeGroup.

The Homegroup could be a group of Windows computers and devices connected in LAN or local area
network, which will share content and connected devices with one another. Computer files that can
be shared with one another by Homegroup are pictures, music, videos, documents, and printers.

Configuration of Network Printer on Windows Server After you successfully installed
the role, next is the configuration of the Network Server with the following steps.
