n OVERVIEW
Yokogawa’s virtualization system, which is optimized for process control, satisfies the quality and performance
requirements of process control, and achieves operations similar to existing systems using physical computers.
It is possible to run multiple virtualized computers (virtual machines) on a single virtualization host computer, thereby
reducing the managed hardware, which in turn helps reduce the management costs for customers who have spent
a lot of time and money for the management.
In addition, the function for quick and easy recovery during a failure also contributes to improving the availability of
customer’s plant operation.
n SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
IA system product software that used to run on separate computers can now run on virtual machines that are located
on a single virtualization host computer. In addition, the Vnet/IP interface card (VI702) function is now supported
through software, therefore making it possible to connect virtual machines to Vnet/IP by using the standard NIC ports
without using VI702.
As multiple virtual machines run on one virtualization host computer, it is necessary to reduce the risk of failure of the
virtualization host computer. Yokogawa offers multiple system configurations to reduce this risk. It is also possible to
mix systems that use conventional physical computers with virtualized systems.
Three typical examples of virtualization system configurations are shown.
• Configuration for plant operation and monitoring
• Configuration for use in operation support system
• Configuration for plant operation and monitoring, with a dramatic improvement in availability

Configuration for plant operation and monitoring, with a dramatic improvement in availability
Figure 3 shows a system configuration that enables the highest level of the availability of plant operation among
the virtualization systems provided by Yokogawa. It consists of the usual virtualization host computer, a standby
virtualization host computer, and a shared storage that stores information shared by these virtualization host
computers.
If the active virtualization host computer fails, the failover is available to automatically starts the required software on
the standby virtualization host computer. In addition the live migration is also available to support the maintenance of
the virtualization host computer, thereby improving the availability of plant operation to the maximum.

Virtualization software
Hyper-V on Windows Server is used as the virtualization software. The Hyper-V functions such as the management
software (Hyper-V Manager), the resource control, and the backup function are used in the single configuration in
Figure 2.
In the configuration with multiple virtualization host computers in Figure 1, the live migration function is used in
addition to the functions of Figure 2.
In the HA cluster configuration in Figure 3, the live migration function and the failover function are used in addition to
the functions of Figure 2.
Furthermore, in configurations with multiple virtual computers, it is possible to add a replication that creates a copy of
a virtual machine on another virtualization host computer on a regular basis. To add the replication function, install a
virtualization host computer on which you want to create the copy, and connect it to the management network and the
network which the virtual machines use such as Vnet/IP and remote UI network.

Plant information network
The plant information network is a network used for file transfer and information communication among HIS and ENG
in the virtual machine, general Ethernet devices, and HIS in the physical environment, and is also an information
network for connecting upper software package systems (solution products, etc.).
When connecting a UACS station to UACS clients, it is necessary to have a plant information network and a dedicated
UACS Ethernet network.
Domain controller
In order to use the live migration function, the failover function, and the replication function, the virtualization host
computers must be in a domain environment. Therefore, the domain controller shown in Figure 1 and Figure 3 is
required. It connects to the virtualization host computers through the management network. When using the failover
function in an HA cluster configuration, redundant use of two domain controllers safeguards the configuration against
hardware failures.
n FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATIONS
Vnet/IP Interface Package
Required software, that is used when Yokogawa IA system products running on the guest OS of the virtual machine
communicates Vnet/IP without using the Vnet/IP interface card (VI702), is provided.
Security Measure
IT security tool can be hardened by using windows security functions. This tool is standardly provided with CENTUM VP,
ProSafe-RS, etc., and it is now expanded for virtualization system to include the following components.
