Jarod's religion identity is complex due to his mixed family background. His mother's side is Christian and practices traditions like attending church weekly and blessing meals, while his father's side follows Taoism through practices like burning incense, attending temple fairs, and observing a lunar calendar. Jarod finds it difficult to follow both religions and cater to all his family members, but personally feels more comfortable identifying as Christian due to its message of self-love and love for others bringing God's blessing.

My religion identity is hard to define because of the big difference between my
paternal and maternal family background. On my mother’s side, my grandparents and uncle are all piety Christians, including my mom. They would go to church together once a week before I was born and bless the food before every single meal. Some family members on my mother’s side have lived in Canada for decades. Sometimes, they will come back to Taiwan just for celebrating Christmas together. On the other hand, the father side of family’s religion is Taoism. They burn incense sticks, join temple fair and traditional parade. They also pay attention to the good days and bad days on a lunar calendar Taoist use. Back to myself, it is difficult to obey and understand the rules on both sides, it is also hard to cater to all of the family members. Honestly, I feel more comfortable to be a Christian. In my opinion, Christianity is like a religion which tells you to first love yourself then love others in order to be blessed by God. Though there are still some taboo in Christianity, there are more taboos and things you shouldn’t do if you are a Taoist. Maybe I will become a Christian formally in the future.
